Quick update:

Received a new map from MHD earlier today, but won't have time to test until this weekend. Will provide results once I compile them.

TheBreeze You're in good hands. The guys over there at MHD will get you set in no time.

The stage 1 logs look pretty close to where I would expect MHD stage1 to behave, the stage2 log however does not.

Are you running the 91 or 93 maps?

MHD maps are generally more conservative as most of the customers they have are in germany with access to the bahn, so cars get driven harder there.

MHD Tuning , what was your determination? Could you kindly provide some insight on your outcome?

While I firmly believe that BM3 has better off the shelf maps for EWG, I think this is a lesson that off the shelf is just a starting point, and a custom tune is the way to go.

yea for sure all OTS's are designed to be pretty much just that, a starting point (even though most OTS maps, whether MHD, BM3 are damn near perfect already lol)

I too actually thought the MHD power quotes were at the wheels.

Does anyone know if JB4 is crank or wheels?

Burger Tuning doesn't make any solid claims on horsepower.

I know but the dyno charts on their webpage are those perceived as crank or wheel? Cus the numbers are kinda ambiguous and could be believed in either context potentially.

I can't agree. I can tell you that there is more driveability and power offered with off a good custom tune.

Nothing personal to MHD, but these numbers are hilariously bad though.

in terms of peak power, I don't think there is much to be gained - but overall I think there is still some power there.

OTS BM3 M2 Flash (version 5.7)

377whp (converted to SAE and Mechanical HP vs Metric HP)

You're basing all this opinion off of this one dyno. There is definitely something going on with this particular N55 with the way it's behaving in the upper rpms. Look at any EWG N55 dyno where the N55 is heat soaking, and you'll see a power getting cut off at/around 5000-5500rpms just like this one.

All EWG N55s make peak at around 6,000-6,200 rpms. The RWD 6MT non-MPPK N55s show around 285-290whp at 6000-6200rpm, the MPPKs around 305-310whp, and the M2 around 330-335whp.

If you draw a line from 5,300rpms to 6,000-6,200rpms and then tailing off like normal, this particular N55 should have probably been making around 335-340whp which is commendable for a conservative Stage 1 OTS tune.

Ahhhhh, just spent 20 mins reading this thread and it just ends like a bad movie.
I'm looking into doing this exact map so was hoping there was a happy ending.

I don’t think there was an issue with the tune, besides the fact that it’s not that aggressive at all. MHD said their timing is lower, the boost is likely not increased by much - it’s just not a ‘great’ tune, but it’s better than stock.

I think there were something going on with the car or it was heat soaked. I can see MHD perhaps being conservative, but it doesn't make sense to me as to why the curve looks the way it does. It's screwed up. Why would they yank out so much timing to crush the topend power in the N55?

As you saw on the 2 series forum, there's a M235x with a MHD Stage 2 plus E20 making 400whp/450wtq and that N55 is showing peak power in the 6000-6200rpm range with a nice and smooth powerband just like the M2 dyno you posted above.
