Steering wheel retrim - alternatives to Royals?
As per the title really, anyone else out there apart from Royal Steering Wheels?
I only ask as they are drowning in work and being very unresponsive to my enquiries. I'm after my heated wheel retrimming with alcantara and blue or M stitching. Cheers |

I would avoid getting a heated wheel retrimmed, the heating on half the wheel stopped working after they did mine (exchange) and I suspect they damaged the heating element.

I was going to get mine retrimmed over the top of the leather, not have the leather stripped off - this is what they have advised me do (Royals). just have asked him another question and he's not responding

I did my own in the end. Just Googled for a supplier and bought the kit online.
It's not a great job and is hard work, but I'm happy living with it while I own the car.

Yeah Royal did my E90 over the old leather. I guess that's the normal way.

Quite possibly. Could well have been damaged by it's previous owner removing it from his car.

I've seen some pics of a re-trim over the existing leather and they say it will be about 2mm thicker so not too bad at all really.
Just need them to get back to me!! |

Had mine done recently by royal. Looks lovely, I'll host some pics at some point. Their work is really good, and the fact it's sensible money too is just a bonus.
I spoke to 2 places nearer me (to save me a drive to Aylesbury), and both wanted £400+vat. |

Relax people, LOL. Check these out.
https://www.aliexpress.com/item/MEWA...4a7c4c4ddG9jhK Scroll to the bottom of the listing, there's more choices, but they'll basically make you any combination you want. I have one, just not fitted it yet. When I first saw the idea, I thought, no, that'll be crap. But a mate's got one (who provided me the details) & his looks the dogs! For £30/£40 if you don't like the end result, it's not a great loss really...

Royal did a decent job on my F30. I even booked in advance because Jack said he was busy. On the day of my 9am appointment there was one drop in customer and one who arrived 2 hours early and another who had a question. I used the exercise bike in the office for 90 minutes and was seen around 10:30am. I asked him about the correct torque settings for the steering and he hadn't the foggiest idea. So when I got back. I looked it up on newtis info and did it again. He was so frazzled he didn't even know which steering was mine. I wasn't overly impressed with the one exchanged. I think he is over priced for what he does. It's one man who can't manage his own business.
So I wonder if there are alternatives out there as well. As I would like to get the other cars done. |

Well I've got a window of time that we are on holiday and my car can be left unused, so i am trying to get my actual wheel booked in for then, but it just depends if he can do it in a week. I do have another vehicle I can use too if it's a few days longer than a week turnaround. Just need him to respond.

You can send him a wheel if that’s your preference though! |

That was exactly my thought process. If I fvcked it up then it's no great loss, didn't turn out too bad though for a 1st attempt on a spare steering wheel though. Same people supplied mine as in your link too. MeWant via AliExpress.

There's an office on the left as you go in, a store room next to that, and a workshop through a door in the far corner on the right. Kind of surprised you missed it all if you were in there on an exercise bike for half an hour? I didn't see any bike mind...
