F30 LCI: Rear seats do not fold as standard

Just to alert others who are looking at the new LCI specifications:

According to BMW UK (after much confusion and discussion) the new LCI 3-series does NOT have folding rear seats by default, other than in the Touring version. If you want them to fold, you have to order the "40:20:40 split/folding rear seats" option.

This differs from my pre-LCI 3-series where by default we got a 60:40 folding rear seat and I think there was a more elaborate option for those wanting through-loading (40:20:40).

Ah, you are quite right, on closer inspection my pre-LCI had "interior comfort package" which had 60:40 seats.

Anyway, there was much confusion within BMW and at dealer about this option so I thought it worth passing on.

As stated only F31 has folding seats as standard. They have removed it as standard from the F32 Coupe too. It was standard in the E92 Coupe.

I bought my car as a stock order and it had the interior comfort package which I thought I'd never use. Was at IKEA last weekend and fancied a new cupboard...2 massive boxes - 190cm long!

Took a gamble and bought them, got to car park folded rear seats and fitted in perfectly, passer-bys were shocked at how I was sliding this massive box into the back of a 3 series!

Thought the option was a complete waste of money until this point but now its something I will always look to spec when buying a car!

I bought an e90 320i new in 2006 and I have lived with split fold rear seats for the last 9 years. I will never make that mistake again, best £250 ever spent on the folding rear seats on the new 330i

It's a piss take that they are not standard.

One of the reasons I got rid of my f30 335d...

Will know to spec them next time on an f36

Agree with above, this was my first BMW and got caught out by buying it nearly new, checked the obvious specs, xenons, pro nav etc.
Couldn't believe it when I first went to try to fold down.

Pretty sure folding seats are standard on F36. However, I do have interior comfort pack

I have a four months old f30. It was a stock car and the seats dont fold flat. Not a standard feature on pre lci either.

It has always been an option, either as part of a comfort pack or as a stand alone option. When I was thinking of buying a used 3 series, it was a make or break option for me, wasn't bothered by M Sport Plus pack, heated seats, etc., but it had to have folding rear seats. You would be surprised at how few have them.

Spot on, it is a fecking p!ss take in this day and age, and on a motor worth £37k new. Mine is an AUC, so never had the choice, and was shocked it was not standard (I get the 40:20:40 being an option, or even 60:40 being an option, if a one piece folding seat was standard (how much would that have cost to design & manufacture!))
Will definitely be on my next car.

Rant over :-)

I could never get a car without folding rear seats again. I've made that mistake before.

The best 'folding' seats have had were in our Toyota Yaris.

Absolutely amazing bit of engineering.

The entire rear seats could be moved forward, giving more space in the boot.

Used to surprise people when you were putting load shopping in lol.

AND....

If you wanted more the actual back seats could be made to go upright against the front seat.

Turning the car in to a 2 door estate.

A really excellent feature for such a small car.

Folding seats historically have been standard on the coupes, however are now also an option on the F32.

e90 folding seats was not standard on saloon, nor the F30.

Last car I had without folding seats was Toyota Altezza, wont make that mistake again.
