Yeah looks like you still need to tick them as a £710 option.

Stock it comes with halogen.

They are a pain when you have washed the car and they kick in! Plus the bumper looks neater without them.
I discovered last night that the washers can be turned off via coding. Won't do anything for the bumper, but it'll stop the newly-buffed look (!) from getting messed up.

Yeah I did know you could but as it's a legal requirement I've left them alone.

Has to be one of the best things about LED headlights if you ask me! Like others have said they make a right mess of a clean car and don't do much in the way of cleaning. Also, the covers can get damaged, stolen, lost and they get stuck during winter/ice... they aren't good for much!

I generally give the wash very quick bursts to avoid the wipers and headlight jets from activating on my E92. Can be a bit like Russian roulette though!

I won't miss them!

Me to, giving them a couple of burst.

SWMBO hasn't understood this concept, hate it when she goes out and I've just cleaned the car.

Yep had one stolen - it definitely did not fall off since putting a new one back made me realise it had to be put on in a particular way.

Works well with snow and dirt on country roads for me.

So why don't LED lights need washers in a legal sense ( genuine question)

I suspect it's just a case of the legislation not keeping up with the tech.

Ah my bad. I always tick the Plus pack when speccing cars.

That's rubbish then, as all Audi S Line models now come with Xenons as standard. BMW should be the same!

Yeah it is a bit crap from Bmw considering all new Lci M Sport 1 series now come with the LEDs as standard, They should have at least done the same with the 3 series Lci

I have been told that Xenon lights have a very small light source (direct), so a small bit of debris (squashed bug) can have a large effect on the light output.

Halogen and LED are typically indirect light sources (use a reflector).

Makes sense, cheers.

Very topical for me as we're currently speccing a 135 for the Mrs car.
Notice that had LEDs - so might remove the washers.
