So let me just get this straight.

Aldi want to charge you £10,000 more for a hot hatch that is.

Slower

Has worse brakes

And carries less corner speed than the R?

To whom?

Idiots

Should have put them both against the Civic R. Would have smashed them.

The RS team can't be happy with that, that Golf R is a tasty package for what £250 a month?

Those days of £250 pm are well and truly over. Add another £100 to a cooking 3 door DSG!

Pissed off Audi guys. A bit like some of the posters on here:

It's a good video, I like Dan more and more. He's about 10 times more insightful than Sutcliffe!
Those times are about 5 secs quicker a lap than me and Nisfan in our respective cars... I reckon I can get a couple more seconds off that in which case that's no bad going for a diesel hearse!
If only the wife liked Golfs rather than the mini we bought

From watching the video, we relearned a tight sorted chassis will perform better on the track.
That 60bhp ain't really a lot of difference.

That the Leon and Renault are better / more fun to drive than both the Golf R and the RS3.

10k? Is spec of the cars the same ? It usually isn't.
What's standard for the price quoted, leather ? DSG ?
Guess it's what you would spec that might make a difference, I would want those two for a start.

Prefer looks of the RS to be honest too.

No, you are correct, if you spec a Golf R same as a base RS3 (Leather seats, 19" wheels, 5 door, DSG, etc), there is way less than 10 grand in it. So the Audi is priced quite well when you think about the more complex AWD system, bigger engine and the fact that it is a 'premium' brand.

Loving how car enthusiasts will buy a car on how fast it goes round a track, and never track it.

Audi still haven't lost the ability to charge more for less.

Yes, well probably 3 actually, the Renault 275 Trophy, Leon Cupra 280 and Honda Civic. Renault and Leon significantly cheaper than the Golf R too.

None of this matters, you buy the car that appeals to you most, end of.

Couldn't agree more!

My comment was more around how amazing that statement is, not v long ago high power FWD in a car was spawn of satan and majorly slated. All the comments of they can't handle much over 200bhp (Mk1 Focus RS etc), and they certainly wouldn't have been track weapons back then. Amazing how the FWD game has moved on.......

Agreed

None of the above sound half decent next to the RS3!
I know it might not be the quickest, but Audi do know how to inject a bit of drama to the proceedings. I still miss the sounds of my V6 S4!!
Don't miss the 'turn and hope' steering though!!

Sorry I was talking ex VAT, from what I can see you can get one for £250 + VAT, which is cheap motoring.

You will get a sore ass sitting on the fence like that

But you're right they are all good cars that find their buyers. We buy what we prefer.

That Audi 5 pot however sounds great

Personally I think he's had too many chill pills this morning, not like him at all .

Good vid and thanks for posting, but just adds more confusion to my choosing a new car(s) Mrs seems fairly settled on the 135 i choice for herself.

Wonder how much of the RS3s apparent weaknesses are because it just hasn't been set up right 'out of the box' much like many of us have found with our 335ds. It may deliberately have been set up to understeer at the limit because Audi thinks that's what most of their customers want. Perhaps a set of ABT/MTM springs and a beefed up set of ARBs are all that is needed to turn it into something much more driver oriented....
