Splitting ambient lighting from instrument lighting

I just coded my car to separate the setting of the ambient lighting level (door strips and overhead lights) from the setting of the instrument cluster. It's a nice thing to do since I can now set the instruments quite dim (which I like and it also makes the LCD panel backlight stand out a lot loss) but keep the ambient set to bright. On a black interior it's hard enough to see the door strips as it is so this suits me much better.

Now, the little wheel on the dash only sets the instrument cluster level whilst the ambient is set using the lighting control on the menu on the central screen.

If anyone's interested, here's the details:

ECU: FEM_BODY
Section: 3070
Parameter: Ambiente_Nachfuehrung - set it to "nicht Aktiv"

While I was there I also coded a bunch of other stuff:

- Lights on door handles illuminate when car in reverse
- Auto stop-start is remembered from last setting
- Tyre temperatures on TPMS display
- Boot lid (f31) opens and closes with single press of either key fob or interior button (very useful!)
- Changed colours and appearance of sport power gauges
- Turned off fog lights coming on when cornering at slow speed

I also coded Sport Auto Transmission (2AT) and added paddles.

Coding turns out to be quite easy in the end, so if you've thought of having a go before, I'd encourage you to try. Just take it a step at a time and follow the various guides in the coding section here.
