Are m sport brakes really this squeaky

Hey I have a 435i xdrive grand coupe with the blue m sport brakes.
Unless they are really warmed up from a long hard stop, they are loud as hell from 10 mph to zero with low peddle input. Almost like it has racing brake pads.

Is this normal?

When's the last time you lubricated the pads?

How many miles does your car have? Are the rotors and pads still original?

Car has 74k on the clock so I would imagine not original but I can't confirm that.

Don't the sensors go off if the badd are bad. It's definitely not metal to metal ik how that feels

You mean put that lube behind the pads when you do a brake job? If so than never

For me, yes. I've had the car since it had 13000 miles on it. They've always been noisy when the thermometer dips below about 60. Anywhere north of that they're good and quiet, so I figured it wasn't worth the trouble of trying to grease them, which some have said made no difference. It is definitely an annoying noise

Mine were noisey from day 1 of my ownership starting at 30k miles. It was always worse when it was colder. After 16 months, I finally got fed up and replaced the rotors and pads. Now they are completely silent and the cross drilled rotors look nice with my 437m wheels. Very pleased with the upgrade.

That's likely the problem. Squeaking is caused by bare or close to bare metal to metal contact. It's just like the hinges of a door. I re-lube mine yearly when I've got the wheels off to clean the rims on the inside, rotate tires and touch up the paint on the hubs and calipers. New pads can stop squeaking, usually because they're lubed when they're installed. Once the lube wears off they'll squeak too.

Billfitz is dead on about the brake paste. It's part of the system to prevent squeaking. Often it's poorly applied or gets blasted off in a car wash by power washing wheels over zealously.

If you are going to pull the pads out anyway to reapply brake paste, just toss the stock pads. They are no better than average. Install Hawk 5.0 pads. (They come with brake paste.) They have incredible bite and will noticeably improve your brakes while getting rid of the noise.

See photo for part numbers. You need the front 340mm/370mm pads and the rear 345mm pads.

They are known to be a bit squeaky, but my experience has been very positive. I only hear them squeak occasionally when I reverse and apply brakes mildly or generally sometimes by maneuvering slowly and applying the brakes a bit. But in general - quite rarely. Was more pronounced when they were new. Don't remember when the last time I heard them was.

Much appreciated everyone. Will probably just end up doing a full brake job

I had the same issue with my blue M Sport brakes and this was my only solution.

Tried switching to cheap ceramic pads, and still had the issue. Brakes were so loud it was embarrassing to drive around parking lots, malls, etc. Constantly turning heads for the wrong reason.

I ended up with new AKEBONO (EUR1880/ EUR1656) pads. Combined with new Zimmerman Rotors. Bought the parts and just paid a mobile guy to come install them at work.

Less bite, but no brake dust and dead silent. I'd sacrifice some bite for clean wheels and stopping silence any day. Wheels constantly covered in brown brake dust ruin the look of the car for me. You also don't snap your neck if you accidentally hit the brake too hard. Becomes more gradual and smooth stopping.

Keep in mind if you order your own parts, it's standard practice to also replace the brake sensors if you are changing rotors/pads. They can be found for cheap.

What set up did you go with? I'm not seeing many rotor options out there. Hate to be the first but I saw a set of EBC rotor and yellow stuff pads. Does anyone have any experience with their rotors? Hope they work!

The squeek happens because the pad friction surface, is not matched to the rotor surface. Consistent driving with aggressive stops that put heat into the rotors (not locking them up) will wear the pads in. If you're in a hurry, take valve grinding compound and smear it on the front and rear surfaces of the rotors. Then go for a drive and do some more aggressive stops without locking up the brakes. The grinding compound will seat the pads faster. No you will not careen off the side of the road because some goop is on your brakes.

Here's what I went with. The lowest price I found for everything was through RCA Garage. I was a bit nervous ordering through RCA since I'd never heard of them, but everything showed up as expected within a few days.

Stoptech cross drilled rotors:
128.34144L
128.34144R
128.34147L
128.34147R

Hawk pads:
HB765B.664
HB766B.624

Centric brake sensors:
116.34082
116.34080

This is one of the best articles which explains the bedding-in process and material transfer process (how brakes pad particles coat the rotor surface):

https://www.apecbraking.co.uk/Resour...r-Process.aspx

In short - a brake pad which facilitates the material transfer process is worth considering. The indicator of material transfer process is brake dust.
