2018 F36 iDrive 6 with NO TOUCH

I'm pretty sure my car is supposed to have a touch screen. It's a 10/2017 build, 2018 MY with S609A Navigation Professional. Did the PO possibly disable the touch screen? When I check out the parts on RealOEM.com, touch screen is the only option for replacement screen part numbers.

Another question about the iDrive knob: Are you supposed to be able to use the touch pad to navigate menus or is it just for writing letters? When I swipe it, it does nothing.

Cannot comment on your touchscreen. If it's an actual touch screen installed, it can be enabled/disabled via coding (IE might not have been a paid part of your nav package, so they turned it off).

As for the iDrive pad, mind only works for panning around the nav map, or when you are adjusting the equalizer settings, you can swipe left/right to drag the setting.

What's IE?

Thanks for confirming the touchpad. Found a few more threads on it and it's apparently fairly useless. Really could've been awesome for navigating menus.

Oh sorry, "IE = for example". My car had enhanced Bluetooth, but didn't come with the connected office package. I just enabled it with Esys.

E.G. = exempli gratia = "for example"
I.E. = id est = "that is" (specific clarification, only instance of something)

In your case e.g. fits better, as this is an example of what may have caused it, but not the only possible explanation

But enough with the English (and Latin) lessons.

WDE82 I'd also be surprised if you don't have a touch screen. You should.

And no - the to touchpad is simply for writing letters, not for menu navigation. I wasn't aware you can pan the map - I use the touch screen for that

I wish volume control could be enabled through the touch pad.... The biggest HMI negligence in this car is having the volume control left, close to the driver (who has volume control 20 cm closer any way, on the steering wheel). That long arm stretch required as a passenger to control the volume is extremely annoying. Audi have their volume knob in the area of the iDrive... much more convenient for everybody!

Oh duh. It's usually lowercase. I couldn't shake "Internet Explorer" I'll have to get esys

I tried expert mode on BimmerCode last night and tried to find anything with the word Touch in it and set it to active. I need to get esys and an Enet cable for this car.

If you look closely at your screen, you should be able to tell whether it is touch…. I don't have my car around now otherwise I'd take some photos from close by.

Does it have some kind of grid pattern that is visible at certain angles? I assume the touch screens are resistive?

They're capacitive, not resistive. I haven't noticed a grid on mine tbh. Take the screen out if you are not sure and check its partnumber.

That's probably the easiest way to be absolutely sure.

I don't want/need the touch function but if the screen is capable I want it enabled. It's nice to have when setting things up before pulling out of the garage or parking spot.

Fully agree - if you are entitled to it, you should make sure you have it.

Apart from that - the only time I use it is to pan a map…. Don't like fingerprints all over it and it is quite easy with the Idrive…

Sorry for messing with your mind.

There is some sort of "touch" with Esys. I was playing in the backend doing my Android display, and BMW does have an on/off.

Did the F36 come with touchscreen with ID6? I was looking up my vehicle with production date of July 31, 2017 and also has 609 Navigation System Professional optioned and it certainly does NOT have a touchscreen.

Is 609A different from just 609?

Mine is 609, with touch screen.

Could the touch be linked to HUD or some other option?

Quite mysterious this one... it obviously exists in a configuration with a non- touch-screen as well:

See also the Cons here:
https://mobilesyrup.com/2017/07/26/0...ng-efficiency/

Curious what the touch-screen was then linked to...

From what I read it was introduced with MY2018 in Europe. Maybe it wasn't at that time in North America.

Connect wie esys and check "Zeitkriterium" in VO.
If itīs <07/17, it has no Touchscreen. The first year (07/16-07/17) LCIs came without touchscreen.
if it is 07/17, it can come with and without touchscreen. you have to check OEM Number
if ZK is 10/17 or higher, it has touch for sure.

The installed Hardware mostly depends on ZK and not actual builddate.

That would make some sense. I'll check this soon. Enet cable is on the way.

Any luck guys???
I have a 11/2017 build, 2018 MY F36 440i and no touchscreen either, my build sheet says I have the 609 Navigation System Professional. If it is codable or a simple change, I would definitely do it.

My car simply has no touch screen.

As I've gotten used to the car as a whole, I've found I have no desire to use a touch screen. Finger prints are annoying on the screen for one. And the main reason is that the screen isn't that accessible for touch usage. Once you get used to the iDrive wheel, there is no reason to touch except maybe text entry while parked. To use it requires leaning forward in my normal position. So it's kinda pointless.

My point exactly. I never use the touch functionality. Single exception - map panning. Which is very, very rare.

Otherwise - it is too far from the searing position and much easier and convenient to control with the iDrive.
