Car rattling (suspension, chassis? ) when weather turns cold
I have a 2018 330i XDI (msport if that makes any diff) and all summer the car has been driving great however now that the outside temperature is dropping (and it happened last winter too) the car is very noisy to drive, sounding like a 25 year old taxi, knocks and rattles over bumps, sounds like bushings or suspension.
this seems to happen as soon as the temp gets in lower double digits (Centigrade) then once the winter clears next year and temps return then the noise will go away and the car will go back to being quiet and smooth. this is not related to cold start as the noise does not go away no matter how far i drive it and only happens if going over small bumps etc any ideas? Remote diagnostics are what they are ... responding with all applicable caveats.
Two questions to start a dialog. How many miles does your car have? Were any parts with rubber bushings replaced? I sense the rubber bushings in control arms (as an example) are worn out. When the temperature decreases, the rubber become much less pliable and even more so as the mileage increases. Classic metal-over-metal rattling will be produced. |

48,000 KM now
i don't believe anything was replaced as it was bought in 2019 and then the pandemic hit and the owner hardly drove it anywhere. only had 26,000 km on clock when I bought it |

Is there a reputable indy shop in your area? Thorough suspension inspection would be recommended.
