Wheel size and spacer question..

Hi guys. Wheels and tires and not really my thing, so I'm not sure what the right answer is. I am currently looking at a set of wheels that would be 18x8 with a 40mm offset.. with 225 45 18 's all around for tires. Does this mean that they will sit in further in the wheel wells then my current stock luxury 18's? And if so what size spacer would I need to use if I want to get them to be flush?

Thanks.

i am not sure what the luxury 18 specs are but if it is the typical bmw it should be 18x8 +34. if you get a +40 it will be tucked further in 6mm. unless you run a stud kit, you'll need to get a min 10mm, possibly 12.5mm spacer. which would put you at +30 or +28.5 which is plenty flush. turner has spacer with hub extenders for 3, 5 and 7.5mm spacers if you don't want that large of a spacer.

personally i'd just run the 18x8 +40, no spacers and 245/40/18 width tires to fill out the wheel wells

Yes ET40 will sit in further in the wheel wells compared to OEM.

You can use 15mm front and 20mm rear spacers with 225/45-18.

But I would instead (or also) use wider tires. 245/40-18 or 245/45-18 square.

There won't be any issues running wider tires right ?

And thanks !!

The only issue I might see is front brake clearance with ET40, but that has nothing to do with tire width.

If you end up with clearance issues it's probably easy to solve with spacers.

i would recommend a different offset and not need spacers. there are plenty of wheels out there that will fit better. if this is a used set and the "price is right" you'll end up spending more in spacers and lug bolts than if you just got a proper fitting wheel to start with. It i was stuck on getting an 18x8 square set, id look to make the offset in the range of 25-35.

Best option is to get an 18x8.5 et 30 or 35 and run 245s square

If you have an 18x8.5 ET38 like the APEX ARC-8, you can run 255/40/18 square which will give you the original side wall height.
