transmission/drivability module crashed?

My car is at the service center due to some complaints about rough transmission, faulty check oil indicator and a minor recall (some pump removal? i cant recall exact name)

Technician called me last week and said some module crashed while updating the software and they need to replace it. He also told me this very common and there is no need to panic.

Anyone know whats going on here? Do i need to worry?

Thanks

Modules do sometimes fail during updating.

Right, this is why they don't currently let you apply software updates yourself to anything more than a small subset of your nav system! Updates can fail for whatever reason, or they could misbehave on your car. That's why they get applied at the shop, and certain modules probably also call for a test drive afterwards.

This is fairly routine. Just look at it optimistically — they're giving you a brand new drive module! The main inconvenience though is that they're probably shipping one from Germany and you'll be without your car for a bit.
