2012 F30 328i battery
2012 F30 328i battery
I've been reading the forums for a while trying to read about what correct battery to use but I've been seeing different info. Which of these would be the correct battery? https://www.pepboys.com/bosch-platin...product/838845 https://www.pepboys.com/bosch-premiu...2201ef0a1c0e0f |

I'd say the key information is where it says 'This part fits your 2012 BMW 328 Series'.
I assume the $23.20 is what they're charging you to register the battery. Make sure of it, the battery must be registered to the car via an OBD diagnostic tool. |

The most important thing is to match the Ah rating of your current battery and do the battery registration in the engine ecu, or else you'll need a lot more programming.

Walmart has an AGM H8 that fits and is $150. it has a few more CCA than the H7. Its the only one I could find in stock close by.
I never got around to doing the battery registration. Somehow, the car continued to start and operate effectively.

The engine ecu has charging parameters programmed in for each Ah rating of the battery, and as battery ages. The alternator is not a simple alternator. When something overheats there, you'll have serious problems on your hand.

I don't think the Ah intervals are that granular. I don't recall the exact intervals as its been some time. You don't have to change the ecu rating if you put the correct oem equivalent battery in.
Most people don't keep these cars longer than a battery life anyway and the doomsday scenarios for battery registration are overhyped. to each their own I guess.

If there wasn't a good reason for the registration procedure BMW wouldn't have bothered to install it. It has nothing to do with the battery AH rating. The BMW charging system provides a higher level of charge as the battery ages, to compensate for the lessened ability of the battery to hold a charge as it ages. If a new battery isn't registered the charging system will continue to provide a higher charge level, which will reduce the life of a new battery. If you prefer to ignore the need for new battery registration and don't mind the consequences that will result to each their own I guess.

I'm curious how many "my alternator/battery caught on fire" or "WTH did my battery only last 12 months?" posts are on this forum.
Thanks for repeating my point. A digital forum parrot! |
