Clear Bra install - need opinions on issue!
Had my 328xi done with Xpel ultimate yesterday. There was a small but deep chip in the hood and they were advised of it, provided with oem bmw paint tube.
I suggested that it needed to be filled, wet-sanded and polished before the ppf install; the owner of the shop agreed. I mentioned that I wanted to see the touch-up before the film install and it looked good at that point. I did'nt look that closely upon collection as it looked fine prior. I know it would not simply disappear. This morning in brighter light I see this. I email with this picture and a request to address it - if this was yours would you let it go or how would you handle this? I know the film isn't the easiest to remove. Looks like it could be worse...
Any before pic? Or zoomed out for reference? |

If you were my customer I wouldn't remove then reinstall the clear bra since you said it looked good. They did what you asked so it sounds fair to me just reading your original post.

Damage is done. I wouldn't lose sleep over it. It will likely do more harm and cost much more to remove the bra, and reapply (or provide replacement) than it's worth. A hood section of clear costs like $300-800 depending on how much you got done - so if you said "it looked good" and took it home, unfortunately it is what it is.
Unless you specifically paid, and in writing, had it say that they would repair the nick up to the level of the other paint, I wouldn't bring it back to them. |

I said the touchup before ppf looked good. not sure why it changed in appearance. I'm thinking the ppf accentuated the lack of filling that wasn't showing up beforehand.

Because you accepted it, you're pretty much in a bind and it looks small enough where you'll have to just deal w/it. I'm nitpicky but I think I could live with that and be glad a stranger didn't take sandpaper to my car.
That said, I'm not sure how you couldn't tell that your agreement on wet sanding was ignored. Perhaps the shop decided it looked good enough without them risking damage to your paint, and/or they lacked the experience wet sanding, or the time waiting for touch-up to become sandable. Whatever the case, it's obvious that the spot was not sanded. |

I would let it go unless you want to pay for a redo. I have the same thing on mine and it's not bothering me much. But It's also less noticeable on a silver car. Chips are bound to happen.. That's what I've learned.

I feel it is more that the time was not allowed for the toughup to dry enough also. They seemed to have the materials for correcting chips but now I'm not sure of their expertise. They have offered to remove the PPF and issue a partial refund, then I could take it and have it professionally touched up, then pay the partial refund back and they will re-PPF it. Essentially not charging for the removal. |
