hello all,

I have a 2014 428 that I got a cupel of months ago and its been having some problems connecting to my iPhone through Bluetooth on startup

so I though that maybe I could just run a software update and it would fix it so I found a thumb drive and formatted it and I downloaded the update from the bmw website using my vin but my car says that the "Software on USB device not up-to-date" ?

the file I downloaded was UPD05074.bin

and the version I'm currently running is

Media: MN-002.033.002

Telephone: TN-002.033.002

Any help would be immensely appreciated

Do you have any advance?

I have the sam Problem, I want to update because of the Bluetooth Cover Albums being stuck with my iPhone.

I am also on 2.033.002
My guess is, that the NBT I version is to old and that it would need to be updated via ESYS

Hi Guys,

Same issue here for me. Any fixes yet?

I have a 2014 330D, the song name and picture wasn’t updating as I change the song, it’s driving me mad. (iPhone 14 pro max)

I got the latest version of the software from BMW website. Put it on a USB stick and when I put it into the usb port I am getting

“Software on USB device not up-to-date”

I’ve tried two different usb sticks.

Upgrade your car’s istep which will have the latest update files

There is a work around for this problem:

If you look at the version in HU it will have a particular version number structure.
Ie TV-110.005.011

For some reason, maybe HU replaced at some stage - who knows.. but the bmw server thinks the unit fitted is different for your VIN.

So, you need to use different vins to find the update that has the same version number structure. This can be done by checking the release notes with that particular software download - there is always two files once you’ve entered the vin number.

This is little clumsy, but search with vins of similar age etc to your vehicle, but eventually you’ll find it..

I have this same problem. Thought it would be an easy update but i'm also getting the same error message. Where do you suggest i could find the different VIN's so i can try what you have suggested below?

So you tried UDP05074 but it didn't update?

I can't load .bin files here, so enter vin: WBAKS420200J49157 and try the UPD05081 file.. let me know how you go..

Hi. As per previous vehicle your system should take the 05074 file. If it doesn’t work, try the 05081 and see if that loads..

- if it’s not compatible, it won’t load..

unfortunately I don't think it fixed my issue of my album covers and track names not updating but thanks again for the good info.

Before you throw in the towel, try a reset of the HU, delete the pairing from both HU and phone and then re-pair.. See if that helps.

And set Bluetooth profile if iPhone to car stereo by taping i next to the bmw entry . Under device change it to car stereo.

Thanks you very much!! Worked first time even though my current number of software wasn't in the pdf for that bin file either. Still doesn't seem to be syncing my contacts correctly with my new phone but i guess it's better to be more up to date!!! Thanks again!

The update worked this time with that VIN.

But it still doesn’t seem to be the most up to date version.

The songs still don’t switch for me.

I have tried all the other suggested things. It’s quite strange the odd time it does work…..

If you can post a pic of the updated software versions, I will do some research. I have seen a number of this year 2013-2014 nbt vehicles have problems with taking this update.… there may be some FDL changes required to get album art and skip working correctly.
You should have an additional “add on”line as below:
