2014 328 pricing Nav vs Tech Package
In reading what comes with the Navigation System vs the Tech Package on 2014 models, are they the same packages other than HUD being included with the Tech Package (for extra $1,000)? If so, understanding there are lots of positive reviews on the boards for the HUD, is it solely worth $1,000?

Yes, but if I read the building website correctly, when you just add navigation without the tech package, it seems you get all of those items listed other than the HUD anyway.

Gas/Diesels models (non AH3) do not get 6AC - BMW Assist eCall and 6AE - BMW TeleServices with the Tech Package. At least this is how the 5/20 order guide appears. And yes, difference between Tech Pkg and just ordering Nav is the Heads up display. $1000 for HUD. I'm not sure its worth it as I still find myself not using it very often. Especially since it doesn't work well with my Polarized sunglasses. I'm still in retrain mode.

I'd probably pay 1k just for a factory HUD - very cool feature IMO and huge safety margin. At this point, all I have is the alarm that goes off when I get going to fast. These cars are wayyy to fast for their own good
There were some optioning changes between 328 2013/328 2014, but don't use the website/configurator as an absolute guide, it can be buggy at times. I'd guess you get more than just the HUD for 1k. Edit - I was wrong, all you get is HUD. I personally would get it because I love gadgets like that...but 95% of people would probably see that as a waste of money. There are aftermarket kits that use OBDII, but they appear to suck (I've looked lol). Last edited by drob23; 08-14-2013 at 06:44 PM.. |

I think one of my favorite features going from a 2006 E60 to a 2013 F30 is the HUD. I love being able to keep my eyes on the road and still be able to see when I need to turn and be able to scroll through my music playlist. I basically have no more need to look down at the instrument cluster since the speed is also displayed on the HUD. I think it's definitely worth the $1k.

I think the HUD is an awesome feature for 1k. It shows songs in a playlist, phone caller ID, nav instructions, etc and it's done very very well. Go for the tech pkg!

HUD is my favorite option on the car. A safety feature actually. \
We did an ED in Oct and the navigation information on the HUD made it indispensable for navigating roads in a foreign country. Great for US roads too. Warnings, radio and cd info, cruise info and more are on the HUD. We are looking at a vehicle for my wife and we will probably choose a BMW due to the HUD and eliminate some other cars because the HUD is not available. |

HUD all the way! I was going to get NAV only, but got Tech package. I'm so glad I did. Superb feature. Good for safety and shows radio and iPod music with click wheel.

I think that is correct about 6AC and 6AE only coming if you get the tech package (not included with nav package) for the 328i or 328d. I guess I just blocked it out as those are not items I am particular interested in, so in my head, the only difference between the nav and tech packages is the HUD. It sounds like those who have HUD really enjoy it though. Does it ever become annoying to have that showing in the windshield? I assume you can turn it off, but if you do that too often, it doesn't make sense to get in the first place?

BMW Assist eCall is an important safety feature, the other one I can leave without.

You make a good point. Is there an additional periodic fee for BMW Assist eCall? What about BMW TeleServices (I thought I saw you get a 10 year contract included)?

ECall is free no matter what package you choose for 10 years on 2014 models but I would upgrade to the tech package to get remote services for four years. Most useful feature is using google send to car to send addresses to the nav. Also allows you to lock the car remotely.
I have never found the HUD annoying but one member here mentioned his wife got nauseous from the display. Which is ok because tech package gets you the extended LCD display in the instrument cluster which will display the HUD stuff if you turn the HUD off. |

I've had two BMWs with the HUD and thought it was a solid feature, though, one I realize I really don't need. Also, if you ever need to replace the windshield, have fun with that bill..
