Lamest review ever of 428i Coupe!

I just came across this atrocious review of the 428i Coupe by so-called "auto expert" Matt Joseph of WISC-TV in Madison, Wisconsin. It's hard to watch without holding your nose. I've posted a link to the review below, and you can read my pointed response to it in the Comments section.

Oh lord.. That's bad.

Hating on the x28 owners too..

I have a 435, but the N20 is a great and powerful engine.

Totally agree I chose a 435 just cuz- but the N20 maybe the best 4 cylinder lump in the industry

Who is that guy? Looks like they just plucked some curmudgeon off the golf course and asked him to slowly circle the neighborhood while filming him as he blubbers uninformed nonsense. Seriously, worst auto review I've ever seen.

But you have to give him some credit.
For 50k$, and no standard satellite radio...
Some Kia have sat radio for under 20k$

He never said the car was bad, but a bit overpriced (but I don't think it's overpriced by 10k$, like he said).

I still think BMW could throw a little more things for the price.

What did he say which was off-base or outright wrong besides the engine being twin turbo?

The poor guy reviews cars for the local news. I think the fact that he's getting this kind of recognition speaks volumes. I don't think Chris Harris is scared about losing his job, though.

I don't think it's overpriced by $10,000 but is it overpriced ? Yes it is. At the same time people who look for BMWs don't cross shop it with Kia or Ford. They know what they get when they buy a BMW. it's not for price conscious people. Those people will always choose Kia and other brands to save some change and don't care about the brands. My two cents....

Fat Matt totally denigrated the engine for having 4 cylinders instead of 6 without even taking the car for a proper test drive! Any car enthusiast who's driven the 428i Coupe can attest that it's no slouch in the acceleration department. Car and Driver clocked it at a brisk 5.3 seconds from 0-60 mph. And never once did he mention anything about the car's handling capabilities. Fat Matt hurled the ultimate unfounded insult when he declared the 428i Coupe to be unworthy of BMW's "Ultimate Driving Machine" tagline.

So, yes, he basically did say the car was bad.

Glad that I have a 428i

Interesting review...
Here in Germany, my F32 with just the N26 engine gets a lot of respect and plenty of appreciation from young and old alike. I've been witness to two incidents where people crossing the street have tripped on the curb or walked into a pole as they looked at the car when I've been the lead at a traffic light.
On the autobahn, I never have to worry about its capabilities in the left lane - plenty of giddyup and loads of staying power. A recent high speed trip on Autobahn 5, 6, and 67 confirmed that it'll get 29.8 MPG at an average speed of 81 MPH.
I had the circumstance of testing its limits in an emergency handling situation last week. The tires squealed, but the Msport brakes and steering saved the car, and likely me in it. In a lesser car, I'm sure there would've been a different circumstance.

However a bump in quality or options over the f30 would have justified the price tag, i have to agree...

It's good to see Dick Cheney has found something productive to do in retirement.

It may be good enough for the rest of the world. Even excellent. But as Americans, we deserve better. We are entitled to more. At 5% of the worlds population, we consume 20% of the worlds energy and resources and create 20% of it's waste. We manufactured global warming and ozone imbalance, yet now we demand that other nations (China, India, Brazil, ...) fix it. When we feel a bit light headed and thirsty, we invade countries and bring them liberty ... and "democracy". Don't talk to me about no gas sipping 4 cylinder BMW holmes. Those stay in Europe. What's next, electric cars and small trucks?

He is right about the price vs options comment, however the 4 series with the 4 cylinder is an absolutely fantastic combination. Not because I have one either, I had an E92 and an S4, but I like driving my 428i better than either of the two. I have no idea where he is coming from with his comment about "ASS" auto start/stop?? I find it seamless and barely detectable.

He is stuck on the "More Power" is better syndrome. BMW has been making fantastic 4 cylinder motors in balanced packages for 50 years. On the plus side, at least he recognizes the beauty in the design

This guy has no idea what he's taking about.. Never once did he actually drive the car. Cruising around in "eco plus" (as he called it) , doesn't lend itself well to being reviewed as a performance vehicle. Also, comparing it to a Kia? Really? If you're looking for bargains, then BMW is NOT the right company for you. What a worthless review...

Just one mans opinion. It's local news, I doubt anyone is seriously taking that review into purchase consideration. That guys next story is probably the worlds largest cookie made in the local bakery.

No, I don't think you can consider the F30/F32 as a sub-compact at all. The exterior dimensions is VERY close to that of my father's W211 E-Class, while the interior volume is more than sufficient for 4 adult passengers. This guy is just a serious hack, can't believe they called him an "Auto Expert"...

I have to agree with him on the options/price. Don't agree about the N20 though.

The one thing he's right on: BMW options.

I almost morally object to the fact that they make saftey options optional extras...

As for other optional extras, I really think there are some items (e.g. heated seats) which could and should be standard kit on a car of this calibre...
