Question N20 22psi Peak boost.... Is it too much??

Well guys, Exactly what the post says.... am i in danger of seriously damaging my engine internals?

22psi peak boost. 100 degree average intake temps....

What do you guys think?

Cheers!!!

You should be OK there, assuming the rest of your tune is good. The limit for the turbo is 23psi or thereabouts, the limit of the engine depends on power as a whole, rather than just boost.

I'd like to say the limit is about 24psi. Most people that have blown a ring has been due to overboosting to about 25 psi. That being said, the max I'd ever recommend someone hitting is 23psi and if within your control, smoothen the powerband some so that's not an instantaneous torque peak like the 328i normally does. For the rod bolts, that's almost always a track thing, so unless you go with a bigger turbo, ethanol, and so on to push higher than like 330whp+, you should be fine for non-track racing. I ran 23psi for quite some time but my turbo did start to go at about 85k miles; however, I cannot assert that it went due to the 23psi.

Thank you guys !!! Tune is good and smooth.. I am running ethanol e20 fuel but still on stock turbo, more of a anti knock safety measure as it gets hot over here in Thailand in traffic intake temps are close to 140 degrees.

Sounds like you could use an intercooler, 140 is insane for normal driving!

If you’re sitting in traffic, the intake temps aren’t inside since there isn’t much load in the motor.

Are you referring to stock as in bone stock, or as in stock internals? 22psi seems OK as long as you have the supporting mods, DP, FMIC, CP, DV etc.

Also +1 for logs, that's the best way for us to tell if the car is healthy without being there.

22 is definitely okay. Engine was happy with 23-24, but it's always 25 that seems to blow a ring. Just ask Aekdbrich

I was referring to bone stock, missed the mods in the signature

Garage List
Agree on the smoothing the power out. When my car was flashed, Matt asked me where I wanted it to come in. Seems like many like it right off the line. Mine is set to spread it out over off idle to midrange so it doesn't shock the drivetrain off the line.

There are so many details that need to be addressed though. There’s no set number for how much boost because things like DA, fuel, or elevation play a part in how much you can run. The quality of the tune is much more important.

Oh definitely, but the magic number always seems to be 25 and up for those with blown rings.

Talked to my Tuner and will be getting a 1.4 bar map which is around 20psi, hopefully it will be safer and wont blow anything.

Your logs will tell you what you're hitting. But it appears that map two is +6PSI for EWG (22PSI absolute for PWG), which means you should be around the 23PSI range.

https://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/sho...diagId=11_4765

Is there only one that needs replacing ? I thought there is supposed to be 2 one for intake one for exhaust??
