Akrapovic Exhaust

2015 335i xDrive
I made a post a couple days back asking for exhaust suggestions for my dad and I. We've decided to go with Akra, but I'm new to the car scene and don't know what I'm doing. Is there different versions of the Akra like a touring/sport/race exhaust systems, or is there just one? And what website do I go buy them? They all look sketchy as hell and fake. If there are different versions, we decided on whatever this one is in the video.

That's the akrapovic evolution exhaust, my friend. Keep in mind you'll need to buy the link-pipe too. As far as online retailers, I'm not sure, but you can check the sponsors classified section for reputable retailers.

Okay Akra evolution but does that mean there's other spec versions? And whats this link pipe you're talking about?

[QUOTE=Jgraceffa;22516072]2015 335i xDrive

If you have decided for the Akrapovic I strongly advise you to either by the race cat or a down pipe along. (Wagner, VRSF, AA or ER).

Why? Because the sound track with the standard cat is to less. I'm just in for exhaust-music, and not "killing" kids on bikes, but the standard cat depresses the good music too much.

Future power upgrade? If you wan't more power out of your engine at a later stage it's a must that you mount either the race cat or the downpipe.

Smell!? The down pipe gives an odour that you might find a bit smelly. The high flow cat. doesn't, plus the environment likes you more
The turbo "noise" will be less supressed with dp contra race cat..

You'll need a tune/CEL fix in order to avoid a fault (cell) lightning up on your dash board if you don't stick with the origninal cat.
(Actually, I think the Wagner Cat. doesn't give a cell).

Ordering.. This is what you need from Akrapovic:
Akrapovic Evolution F30 335i F30 P: MTP-BM/SS/1H
Akrapovic Link Pipe F30 335i : E-BM/SS/1
(There is only one edition for the F30 335).

Mounting. You'll need the car 100% horisontal. Use a lift or 4 pce ramps. Torx is needed for the bracket. Don't forget a new metal packing and clamp for the cat.

Almost spot on

With the OEM cat it felt like it was constrained a lot, mismatched in a way - i don't know how to carry that feeling better, but i think the oem cat was not happy with the pressure difference, free flowing behind instead of having the OEM exhaust backpressure, it wasn't balanced and had some resonance around 2k rpm, not sounding its best.

Paired with the HJS hi flow cat it's just perfect, smoother at low revs, more expressive at high revs 3k rpm and above, i love it much better than the M4 for that matter.

And the HJS doesn't give a CEL, and is probably the only one- wagner will result in CEL being thrown now and then. And i'm still Euro6 emissions compliant

M Performance vs. akrapovic evolution

If my car is still under the warranty (32K miles), is the only option for me now to install M Performance exhaust on my 435i? No catless/downpipes or even sport cats unfortunately until the end of warranty. How does m performance compare to akrapovic evolution tone- and performance-wise? Should I wait another year or so and install akrapovic instead to keep the warranty?

Thanks!

I like Akrapovic exhaust - a lot. More so than M Performance exhaust. The Akrapovic sound is so unique that nothing else compares. You made a great choice!

Got it! Do you know which one is this one specifically? Does it sound like it is cat-less?

Here is my car with full Akra Evolution and a catless down pipe. Keep in mind this is in Sport mode. It crackles less in Comfort. I also should mention my car has the factory Power Kit and a custom tune by Enzo layered on top of it.

With the catless downpipe, I would say the M performance was raspy-ier (is that even a word?) and a little tinny sounding compared to the akrapovic - there's quite a bit of a difference and the akrapovic definitely sounds better. People tell me my car sounds like a beast/machine. I hear that without a catless downpipe though, the akra exhaust is on the quiet side - but I can't comment because I haven't heard it without a catless downpipe.

Mine doesn't sound much different with a HJS high flow cat - except the crackles since i have none with the AH3 :-/
