The race option is probably gonna be identical to the 6HP race option:

Basically downshifts for you at 4k, so you can focus more on hitting the apex and whatnot.

this with gunshot burbles is gonna make for some noisy n55s...

Beside addressing the torque limiter issue, what are the advantages of this?

What's "shiftspeed 3+?"
"Race map?"

I get the downshift RPM advantages . . .

Will the flash include all the various stages and Race map, or are there separate charges?

Advantage is simply customizing your driving experience by coding the TCU.

Shiftspeed 3+ basically means they have a faster shiftspeed than stock would allow, even in sport+ with the shifter in DS mode. Race map is the one that downshifts automatically at 4K rpm to keep you in the power band and focused on hitting apexes.

Most likely, you will be buying individual licenses for each stage.

If you buy the super license it comes with all three I think. But if you want to customize settings from the OTS maps you have to add on the customization license as well, as I understand it.

Yes it does - directly from the xHP manual:

necessary vehicle data and checks your Transmission controller for support. If your vehicle is
supported, the button will change to “Backup”. Before proceeding please read Chapter 3 in detail and
prepare your vehicle! The Backup – Process will require around 20 – 30 minutes, if you choose to create
an exact Backup of your TCU. Starting with App-Version 2.1.2, xHP also offers to download a standard
backup from our servers and use this one instead. The standard Backup can also be used to set your
car back to stock, but it may not be the exact same software-revision, that was on your car before.

If you are stock I'd say no there is no reason to get it since your not going to have any torque limiter issues.

I just flashed it on my F32. It indeed does generate a backup.

Backup is generated during initial flash - how can you otherwise flash back to stock?

Probably direct from an online host. I don't think 8HP can be read via OBDII. It probably just notes the ID of the calibration and downloads it from the internet and caches it in a proprietary form. The fact that flash to stock is an option does not mean it makes a bin backup and keeps it as a file on the android device.
