I just wanted to follow up with my experience with McKenna BMW and the service advisor Charlie@McKennaBMWService I arrived Monday morning to drop off my car as I had noticed oil residue on the engine belly pan. I suspected the oil pan gasket. Once I arrived I was greeted immediately and handed over my keys. I was instructed to wait in the waiting area as Charlie was with a customer. I waited for about 15 mins before Charlie was available. He was very proficient in understanding my needs. I spent about 10 mins with Charlie before we were all done and I was directed to the car rental area where I received my paperwork for the loaner car. I was back on the road 15 mins later. All in all from the time I pulled in to leaving I was there for about an hour. The facility is very nice. They have a coffee and snack area where Starbucks coffee is available for purchase. It would have been nice if they had complimentary coffee.

Just after lunch, Charlie called to say they had discovered oil leaking from around the belly pan and the oil filter housing. The oil pan gasket and oil filter housing gasket was replaced under warranty and the work was finished up by the end of the day Tuesday. I arrived first thing Weds morning to pick up my car which went very quickly. I will be going back to McKenna BMW for all of my BMW service.

Since Stage 1 is just plug and play, I could of course disconnect it for warranty work or for service but it's obviously easier to leave it on and it would be nice to think there are a few dealers out there who are 'cool'.

This was by far the biggest question on the GTI regional forums since almost everyone goes Stage 1 & beyond. The 3+ years I had my GTI, VW Alhambra and VW Pasadena were cool and I fully disclosed being Stage 1 before I was even scanned and they were always cool in that, unless the problem could be directly traced to the mod, everything would be covered under warranty.

Thanks in advance.
Go see Charlie Kim (Asst. Service Mgr.) at McKenna BMW (Firestone Blvd. off the 605 Fwy in Norwalk), Great Customer Service and very MOD Friendly! Highly recommended.

Anyone have any updated SA recommendations for the LA area? I know Charlie isn't with BMW anymore.

Regardless of Pacific BMW being close to you, i wouldn't take my car there. That dealer is a mess especially the service side. If you make an appointment it doesn't matter you're still waiting for over an hour to get written up for even a simple oil change and my friends car got hit in the front bumper and it bent his license plate in and they denied that it was done by the dealer

From other threads, it was recommended to see Claudia at McKenna. She was trained by Charlie.

Oil is leaking from the oil filter housing gasket and I brought it in for BMW factory warranty work (under 50K miles).

I'll let everyone know how it went with what I have and what dealership AFTER I get it back.

I left my JB Stage 1 in. Got my oil filter housing gasket, drive belt and coolant replaced. No trouble at Southbay BMW.

Bump...any updates to who's friendly in 2019. Would love to find a place closer to LA/SFV.

Is Claudia at McKenna the go to at the moment?

New Century in Alhambra. Haven't had any problems taking it in. Actually my service advisor compliments me on the mods. I see a few other modded cars there on occasion.

Same here. But they may still flag the car in their system so if something breaks they may deny coverage. They don't have any problem servicing your car so long as you pay them. That's why removing mods before taking it in may be worth while reducing the likelihood of getting flagged.

Advisor told me it has to do with original parts. They have to send the broken parts to BMW corporate in order to get reimbursed for warranty repairs. If BMW corporate flags the part as aftermarket then dealership won't get reimbursed. Similarly if they can see certain a mod caused the problem it won't be covered. At the end it falls on the tech working on your car because they're liable for diagnosing the problem. They don't want to get in trouble so will let advisor know of aftermarket part is involved. I personally re-flash my DME before every dealer visit. It only takes a couple of minutes. However if they were ever to send my ECU to BMW corporate they would find out pretty easily.

They all money friendly. You guys haven't heard about that yet.😂

I have AWE quad exhaust, I can't take that out everytime I go in for service. It's on exit side of everything going on the engine. I don't think it will cause any problem. SA at McKenna said he hasn't seen any problem cause by an exhaust or blame on an exhaust. But he said for sure no more warranty on the exhaust.. lmao. Of course I'll send warranty complaints to AWE if shit happens on a piece of pipe.

found a good one, see arsen at south bay bmw, took care of everything i asked. got me the 5w-30 LL-01 (instead of FE crap), got me a loaner, did not wash my car etc. and most importantly was understanding i had a tune and made sure they did not erase it.

will be taking all of my cars there going forward.
