In short, the iDrive dial works in the main screen to scroll and select items, and the your original UI interface is available through the "original car" tile and also through the radio tile. That will return you to your original UI and all of the other functions you are used to using.

My initial quick review? WOW what a better screen! Not just wider than my 8.8 screen but substantially sharper and more clear. If just for that alone it is a huge improvement!

Regarding the question of fit and finish.. it fits perfectly, and with the chrome accents around the AC and radio controls, the thin chrome bezel edge of the new screen suits perfectly.

I hope to have a few last details worked out asap, including running an accessory and USB extension to the glove box, and post a full review this week.

Lastly, I will also have a full document based DIY up ASAP, as some folks prefer that to watching a video. Any questions please let me know.
I am not questioning your review but if the screen looks so much better, what's the resolution and why does android auto and carplay look squashed?

Thanks bud; wasn't sure how often you checked that. Isn't the resolution the same as the current screen? Either way, that's great to hear! I'm keeping my eye on this and will pop on it soon no doubt. I just noticed android auto being resized/squashed on the screen but that's probably our screen ratio versus other cars. Most to all of them are square so it makes sense.

I am always happy to help, and hoped to have my full function review video created today, but I am buried in other things. I DO plan on having it ready and posted some time this week, and will go through every single screen and option. Feedback is ALWAYS appreciated.

It's not Android auto built in? It's just mirrorlink and you run Android auto app on your phone.

Actually it is an android system that runs the iDrive 5-esque UI. I need to get the mirror function set up properly before I do the review, and is the last step needed for me to do.

This looks great. I haven't look at your videos yet (will when I get home), but was wondering if you tried the Apple CarPlay functionality they mention on their website. If this is an easy way to get CarPlay into my 2014 BMW, then I would seriously consider purchasing this.

I actually don't have an apple product to test, but the info says they work.

10.2" BMW L7 screens can be set to 1600 line resolution in the F3x coding.

Since this device allows you to dl apps. How do apps look like on this screen. This screen is a odd size vs a phone so do the apps looked stretched

This would be awsome if you are running the jb4 app and jb4 tune.

Now there is a cool idea! I haven't YET gone the JB4 route but plan on doing so. Apps thus far have been fine, but candidly not run a ton of them yet. I have primarily focused on navigation apps, google and Waze.

Hi raichean

Have you tried the usb debugging mode and connect a usb cable to Android phone.? I wanted to get my android auto working on the screen.

However I just can't seem to connect the phone to the screen via usb cable. Keep asking me to retry even in usb debug mode and in mtp mode.

I tried on 2 android phones running android 5 and 7. Both seems not being able to connect to the screen via usb. Ive tried different usb data cables too. All in vain. Could you assist?

That is the last piece I am working on as well candidly, and tried with two android phones too, an S6 and now an S8+ with no luck. I am also talking with Avin about the developer settings in the display itself, as it prompts for a password and I don't know what that is atm.

Good to hear that I'm not alone. I've feedback ti Avin too. Pending their reply. Similarly I tried to enter into the development mode in the android setting looking if there could be something that was turned off. It needs a password and Avin said they do not have it.

Do update if you manage to get it work. Many thks.

Will do... I *believe* I can confirm a time fix as well, if you find your time settings wont stick.

Set the top level time in the tiled display to "original time", and then in the deeper android settings, set to automatic.

I haven't had my clock shift strangely since I did that.

Thks raichean

Did not pay attention to the timing. Will keep a lookout.

Anyway. Avin provided the following trial remedy on the usb debugging issue. I have yet to try out. Will try later and update again. Meanwhile u can try to see if it works. Extracted the relevant text.

//

Try installing these two apps into your android phone first then trying to connect the bmw screen via easy connect.

The easyconnected server app needs to installed in your phone so it can communicate with the screen.

Have you guys tried enabling debug mode on your phone? From the videos I've seen on YouTube they seem to be enabling debug on the phone but can't tell cuz the resolution on the videos was crappy.
