F30 N55 Drivetrain Malfunction (faulty turbo)
I have a 2012 F30 335i N55 that started giving me the drivetrain malfunction issue a little while ago. 112k Miles and the only tune is a BMS Stage 1 plug and play. Finally got the car into an Indy and here are the results.
Fault Codes 122108 120308 108F01 The specific diagnosis was: Found fault 122108 blow off valve stuck closed, found fault 120308 charging pressure control plausibility: pressure too low. Found fault 108F01 leakage between exhaust turbocharger and intake valves, found turbocharger wastegate very loose, found faulty turbo assembly. From what I am told I will need to replace the whole turbo and the shop is asking $3,700 total. I started doing some research and was thinking about going down the PURE Stage 1 turbo route and just doing the job myself to save money. Pure 1 turbo itself is around $1750. I’m curious if anyone had these same issues and were able to fix the car without replacing the turbo? If I do need to replace the turbo anything else you guys recommend while I’m down there? Any other advice or thoughts? Thanks! |

Consider your goals for the car. You're at 112k, do you want to keep the car for a long time?
Also consider if you are capabile (skills, time, and tools) of doing a turbo swap/replacement. In that context, also consider if you want to just find a good used PWG turbo, which can probably be had for pretty cheap. |
