Will this custom exhaust idea work?

Hey guys,

I currently have an OEM 435i exhaust on my 428i and I like it, but it's slightly too quiet for me. I once had a muffler delete when I just got the car, but removed it after a few days because it was just too loud for me.

My idea now is to chop off one end from the 435i exhaust, where the valve is, and make a straight pipe out of it. So basically, I want a muffler delete - but with the OEM butterfly valve.

Is this worth a try? Thanks!

I won't attempt to give you any advice here because I've got no clue, but I didn't know exhausts were interchangeable between models. Does this mean a 335 exhaust will bolt up to my 328? Sorry, not trying to jack your thread dude, just interested.

Aha no problem man. Yes, i mounted a 335/435 muffler on my car and it fit with little modification

Yes there is an OEM Muffler clamp (75mm) to use. If you cut off the original exhaust at the designated spot (dimple) and use the clamp there then you can always re-install the old one pretty easily!

Yes, either what he said, or you can just cut and weld. Totally reversible.

its irreversible, you just have to pay to install the new exhaust and pay to install the old exhaust thats the only pain in the butt about modding leased cars

One solution: Open the muffler and take out all the fiber stuff.

Can you cut the muffler open while it's still on the car?

All the pictures I've seen of the "stuffing" being removed from the mufflers is always done from the top. I don't know if it's for cosmetic reasons being that the welds would be hidden or if there is another physical reason why the bottom cannot be cut.

you gotta take it off and cut from the top so you don't have the ugly welds expose and . If your in LA I know a dude that does it, just send me a pm.

I had the modded, now the MPE. Sounds very similar MPE is cleaner sounding though.

I too am interested in this. I have a 335 exhaust on my 428 and I would like it to be a little bit louder.
