EGR cooler recall
Has anyone had the recall performed on their vehicle for recall 18V755000?
The BMW dealership called me and told me the remedy is available and it's just a replacement of the o-ring that leaks, is this true? Is it just an o-ring replacement for those who haven't had an intake melting/soot and coolant mixing issue? Thank you. Updated on my 4/13/2018 post - I also attached the TSB to this post that shows only a o-ring replacement is required if you pass the EGR cooler inspection Last edited by 328iX; 04-14-2019 at 12:31 AM.. |

It's a faulty batch of EGR coolers. Massive thread about it on the UK F30 board. Back log of parts on order slowly clearing. I stress, slowly. If your cooler is not suspected then everything else gets checked over anyway so in your case the cooler may be fine but the o-ring is to be replaced.

If everything is functioning properly, what o-ring is being replaced then?

The EGR o-ring is not a suspect part in the recall. It's wear and tear so as part of a voluntary recall they have done you a favour. Some guys have had their EGR or o-ring replaced 3 times in 60,000 miles. It's the nature of the EGR - they can clog up / malfunction for various reasons. |

Makes you wonder what steps are required by the manufacturer to retain compliance with the redesign of a diesel emissions component, as simple as it seems to actually redesign and produce that particular part with the resources they have. |

FWIW; BMW NA told me coolers should be available around beginning of Apr.
Ours has been sitting at the dealer since Dec with inspection of cooler confirming failure. Aside from the obvious loss of coolant, it shows up as increasing sodium in engine oil analysis. |

So im gonna go ahead and assume an "o-ring replacement" is not the remedy for this issue.

mine has the EGR on the shelf waiting for me at the local dealership, but now waiting on the intake manifold which is on order with no ETA and no stock in Germany. going in Tuesday to pressure test...using about 1L of water a week and that's doing maybe 150km

Correct. The letter I got said "Remedy not yet available". What they mean is all the parts are going to Europe where there far more cars that need fixing. A call to my dealer yesterday confirmed that the parts are still not available in the US. Watch you coolant level is the only real advice I can give.

See attachment. I suspect they are going dealer by dealer, likely starting with those with most diesels or overall volume on the books.

Sadly it doesn't mean anything, i called my dealership and they see it's available but no parts, and no eta for parts other than the "o-ring" they tried telling me is the fix but i denied.

I spoke to a friend who works for BMW Group NZ to see what the story is and he said the EGR cooler recall only just went live, for nz anyway...just checked my coolant and since I last filled the tank we've done 88km, and it's empty again..not looking good, unless we want to cook the motor
