Need some key help. Found it in the dishwasher
2016 F34 w/ comfort access.
So after searching for 2 days, I found my key in the dishwasher. Unfortunately we ran a load of dishes before we noticed it. After much drying and hot airflow, the remote buttons still do not work. However, the vehicle still starts when I hold the key to the ignition. Is there any series of steps I can do to get the remote to function to at least start the car normally with the comfort access, other than buying a $420 key from bmw? Thanks guys |

Make it the spare and use your other one for comfort access?
Does everything inside look ok? New battery too? Clean your battery contacts inside the fob and try again? https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1455537 Last edited by chowser51; 08-18-2019 at 11:18 PM.. |

$371 + tax for a new key with blade cut to your car. Order it from a dealer. Don't let them "program" it. You can sync it yourself. Never know when you need a spare.
But definitely try a new battery first. I think the key requires a certain voltage for NFC stuff. |

Still not a bad idea to bury in white rice (not cooked) for several days to get all the excess moisture out. |

Impurities from dirty liquid or soda can cause the buttons to become stuck but it would not have any affect on the actual electronics within the remote. |

Guess you're the only one to never see battery corrosion on a battery and contacts. |

If the battery leaks and corrode the connectors, that has nothing to do with the engineering behind the remote, you're overreaching in an attempt to spike my claim. I win no prize if I'm right or wrong, just wanted to share what I know, as I would hope someone would of educate me, had I been oblivious. My whole point to this is the remote is designed to resist liquid. If it didn't, 1/2 the people here would need new key fobs, by now. Trust me, I tried to destroy one in the name of science and it would not budge; it's built Ford tough. |

Just because the PCB is sealed, that DOES NOT mean all the moisture is out of the FOB itself. In fact, no matter how well the PCB is sealed, moisture from the other NON SEALED areas of the key fob will be attracted to the battery causing corrosion. That's why I stated that it should be put into white rice as a safety measure. And again, you must be the only person who's never seen a corroded battery leak. |

Why is nobody asking the real hard hitting question here... HOW did the fob end up in the dishwasher?

Yes they sell them without the blade but I thought he would want a complete key since he only has the one. I bought my car used and it had one key so I went and bought the complete key. Synched it myself. Wasn’t paying the dealer.
