To Everyone, raise your hand if you have used brake pads from akebono, hawk, stoptech, ebc and brembo. Can you tell your experience with each pad compared to the OEM m-sport pads?

This is really just preference. There nothing wrong with wanting dust free or dust less brake pads and there always be a sacrifice.

I have tried akebono pads. My experience is there not much difference except the dust is less. Almost OEM feel... if I rate it from 1-10. I would say 9 if OEM is 10. This is just DD. I don't care about the race track... my car will never be driven on the track.

9 out of 10.

Imagine if your house electricity worked 9 out of 10.

That's 36 days a year without power.

Brakes or electricity, not for me.

9 out of 10 on braking. That's your bargain.
Maybe think about it for a minute.

That's what you signed up for when you purchased a BMW?

Really?

sorry, this analogy makes no sense.
Just because he has rated the brakes 9/10, does not mean that sometimes the brakes don't function at all...........

well this threads been going on for some time!
in the end, I bought some Pagid RS4-2's, for a track day.

we don't seem to have the range of dealers and pad manufacturers readily available in the UK like you guys do in US, with your Hawks and your akebono's and whatnot!

I've been told the Pagid's do also will work fine for road use without needing aggressive warmup, so i'll see how they are and compare notes, but i'll continue using the OEM for normal road use, Pagid's for track.
The RS4-2's cost me £170. As for dust, i just don't care.... i wash the car every 4 weeks. The end

This is the best way I could show my experience with Akebono pads vs the OEM ones.

OEM has better initial bite but further down the pedal I feel like Akebono stops harder. Even then the difference isn't that drastic. And then there is the huge reduction in brake dust and no squeals for me at all.

Another thing I noticed is the Akebonos seem to leave visible deposits on the rotors sometimes. Like an imprint of the shape of the pad itself is visible on the rotor.

On my e90 I had akebono pads and was very happy with them. Zero brake dust.
I have the same clicking noise on my f30 from day one , but only when going into reverse, did u find out what was the cause?

Very likely, it's the aftermarket pads. I will try Akebono next time.

Please do a proper bedding of the pads. Some people don't follow bedding procedures or some even don't do it at all.

There are noisy pads out there but some noise is just from improper or no bedding at all.

Should i just go with OEM BMW parts or is there anything aftermarket that is actually better value for money, or maybe 10% more expensive but 30% better, for instance?

any recommendations?
i have the M sport brake package on mine, blue calipers

thanks
The dust from the OEM pads is driving me crazy.

I haven't try other brands, Maybe other brands will not be good as the OEM but I will never choose OEM again.

Hawk 5.0 are better than OEM in every category. Attached is a photo with part numbers for F3x front/rear 370/345 and 340/330 brakes.

These fit the front calipers that are grey? I'm not sure where to find out if mine are 340mm or 370mm. Thanks.

I just went through this with the help of Turner Motorsports guide (link in my sig)

But the deal is - the front pads referenced above will fit BOTH the 340mm and 370mm rotors. As weird as it sounds, it is true.

You don't say what car or year that you have. If you have an F3x 335/435/340/440 withe grey calipers then you have standard brakes that are 340 front, 330 rear. Hawk 5.0 part numbers are in the photo that I posted. If you have one of those cars, but with blue calipers then you have 370/345.

Also you can enter your VIN into mdecoder website. If you have a line item for "M Sport Brakes" then your car came with blue brakes.

If it just says "M Sport", that is just exterior panels
