Your car history, best, missed and worst.

From your car history post

1) The best one

2) The one you miss the most (can be number 1)

3) Your worst

With explanations.

1) My 2015 330d, I’ve owned faster cars but I’ve not owned a car as good an all rounder as this car, fast, efficient, discrete and fun enough to put a smile on somebody’s face that has owned a plethora of sports cars in the past.

2) I was going to say my Z4M but it’d actually be my second Honda S2000, a marmite car for sure but a very raw experience with one of the best if not most powerful engines ever made, then there’s the gear change.

3) An Austin Montego I bought from my dad’s business, what a pile of shat, although it was offset by a decent MK2 Scirocco at the time.

This has to be better than religion right?

1) My first BMW, a 2000 330ci, bloody loved that car and felt like an absolute boss driving a relatively new BMW at 23!

2) I don’t miss any, just always looking forward to the next one!

3) Escort RS Turbo, was superchipped to silly power, and had been clocked so god knows how many miles it had done, everything went wrong with it including engine and gearbox needing replacement, found it had been crashed badly at some point and one of the chassis rails was like a quaver! Absolute piece of shit!

Best - current 340i touring, has everything you could need.

Miss - 300bhp Megan rs250, first fast car and a brilliant starting point, was fantastic.

Worst - not had anything too horrific and have enjoyed every car ive owned post Megan, before that I had a bog standard fiat grande punto, which was crap but what do you expect.

1) The M4 without a doubt. All rounders like the 335d but with more natural athleticism and fun.

2) The Z4. Those Z4s were always compared to Boxsters, but if you viewed it objectively it was a brilliant daily driver sports car. Those last BMW naturally aspirated straight sixes were beautiful and smooth. Lots of great trips and drives in it. I expect the M4 overtake it in time.

3) Vauxhall Cavalier. Whenever a car is not driving how I'd like, I remind myself how shite it could be.

I’ve been thinking about an M4 but in 12 months time I don’t think they will still be available to order, M3 is obviously out of the window, if you want a new one anyway.

I think they've got another 18 months or so till the new one is out.

Good idea Bronchington.

1) Best one.
Nostalgia aside, probably the current one. BMW X5, 30d. As an all rounder it's brilliant. Need to take a sofa to the tip? Easy. Need to move very quickly? Again, easy. We'll move back to separate cars on soon but we'll almost always have an X5 on the fleet I expect. I've given it the black grill treatment and it looks mean as fuck. A note for others, I would hold out for the 40d engine next time.

1a) Second best one.
To be annoying, I'll take a second best - my E60 530d (M sport, obvs). It was a tank and I should have kept it, it only owed a few quid when I dropped it like a cheap whore.

2) The one I miss the most.
My sunrise orange Vauxhall Astra Coupe. 54 plate it was. With the proper wheels. It was only a 1.8 petrol, no turbo, but it was fast enough for me at the time. It stuck to the road like it was on rails, everyone loved the shape and the colour. I think timing had a lot to do with it, I just met my now wife and we were continuously pissed or shagging, so it was a happy time. I should add the car comes into the former as we had to do this without my girlfriend at the time knowing about it, so the car was very much a bed, too.

3) The worst.
A fleeting experience with a Clio 182 Cup. Or some stupid name. It was a pile of shit designed only to kill people.

I also had an e90 325i, very smooth and a lovely sound but my mate had an e90 330d and my 325i wouldn’t know which way the the 330d went!

Oh yeah I forgot about my Cavalier, pretty terrible car to drive, suspension was made out of jelly! Nothing went wrong on it though!

My brother has a white X5 30d, he had a 2012 previous gen 40d before and he reckons the 30d is pretty much as quick, he also has the black grill caper going on.

1) The best one: Current M4CP (even at only 5 days old)

2) The one you miss the most: Hmm, so many. Wish I'd kept the E30 325 Touring. The Jag XJS for presence and bonnet and the Boxster S with a 996 engine and the Overfinch 630R P38 Rangie (10mpg).

3) Your worst: Renault 11. Utterly shit in every respect.

1. Current F31 330d with modifications. Quick enough and handles, steers and stops as I like. Not perfect but it ticks almost all my boxes for an all-rounder.

2. E46 330d. My first BMW and a defining moment - I'd had RWD cars in the past but coming from Seat Leon Cupra VT, which was fast enough but wouldn't go round corners, I promised myself I'd never have a FWD car again.

3. Peugeot 205 GLD (I think). Yes seriously. Bought when I was young and for one reason only : fuel economy for commuting. OK chassis, and it was reliable, but basically a pretty shit car when you're in your 20s.

My best car far and away is my present one, my SRB 440i GC. Absolutely love it. How it looks, how it drives, just everything. Growing up and into my 20s I never imagined I'd have a car as good as this.

The one I miss the most is strangely my Volvo V50 T5 R-Design. It was in inscription silver which had a blue tint to it and I thought with the R-Design body kit it looked great. It was the first proper grown up car I had. Although the auto box was clunky compared to the BMW auto and it didn't handle as well, my god did it shift when it was going. Great engine. Loved that it looked subtle but would leave a Golf GTI behind. Also had an usual feature in that when driving it hard you could actually watch the fuel gauge go down! Had a great stereo and brilliant xenons. Got replaced by a F31 320d M Sport which subjectively was a far better car, but it's the Volvo I miss

Worst car was my first. A L reg Vauxhall Corsa 1.5TD LS which had ABS, power steering and central locking fitted as optional extras by the first owner. Slow, rattley, and awful handling. It had the worst condensation, in winter I had to defrost and clear the inside of the windscreen! Only positive was in over 100,000 miles all it needed apart from regular servicing was an ABS control unit. It started red and finished a lovely shade of pink.

1. Objectively - the 440i, pace, superb engine, relaxed, practical and fantastic looking. Close run thing with no.2 on the list.

2. Citroen BX16. Charismatic and brilliant, engine aside. Superb comfort, 500 mile days were easy. Still waiting for Citroen to recover their mojo, it's too late I fear.

3. Tough one, I've liked them all. Having an unreliable Toyota, by far the most unreliable car I have owned, is a bad situation. Brilliant engine when on song, but the Carina II 2.0 16v Executive takes this prize.

My first car was a BX, at 6th form college I used to have an audience of about 25 people as I did the suspension show!

1. Best - M2 - just wasn’t practical enough and can’t run 2 cars

2. Most missed - E90 M3 - rare, road presence and that V8 noise!

3. Worst - Audi 2.0T Q Avant - lazy gearbox, terrible ride, uncomfortable seats... lasted 2.5 weeks but I did sell for a profit so every cloud...

Garage List
Best - probably the 340i although the Soarer comes a close second. Rare, quick, had 80K on the clock and not a single rattle or squeak and started lots of conversations.

Missed - my 1980 Triumph Spitfire which was immaculate and one of the last ones made. Bloke I sold it to wrote it off!! Have toyed with the idea of getting one as a weekend toy

Worst - any one of the four French cars I owned. Unreliable bags of shite (although I hear French cars are a lot better these days).

Best - My 2003 E46 Individual 330ci Sport Convertible. The fact that this is still my current car almost 13 years after buying it at 18 months old is testament to just how good this car is. Every time I’ve thought of changing it I’ve struggled to find anything that ticks the boxes it does without throwing serious money at it. That said 440i GC’s have had my eye for a while...

Missed - 1991 Honda CRX VTEC. God I loved this car! Looked great, bulletproof, high revving superb engine, wonderful gear change, chuckable, sounded amazing. Put a smile on your face every journey without fail. Never had a car where so many people approached me asking if I’d sell. My classic shape Subaru Impreza Turbo a close second for most missed. What an all weather weapon that was.

Worst - Ford Cortina. Though was my first ever car and a £100 shed. Worst car yes but still great memories!
