2014 F30 6WB Digital Cluster retrofit over the basic one
Hello, I recently purchased an used 6WB digital cluster for my 2014 BMW F30 with the intention to replace the stock one (the one with the very small display). The seller said that it was virginised right before sending it to me. I handed it over to a professional that installed it using an additional optic cable that connected the cluster to the multimedia unit, but for some reason he couldn't make it recognise the car as he told me that the cluster and the car have different integration levels (cluster - 2018 and my car - 2014) and that the cluster is not recognised as a factory piece for the year 2014 BMW F30 (which makes sense since it was officially introduced for the facelift version of the F30 platform). Besides this, he told me that the next thing he would do is to update the car's software to the latest version available for my F30 (would be 2022) in hoping that it would recognise the cluster with that newer version, and if still won't work then he would try and do some other workarounds. I asked a second opinion on updating the car's software version and I was told that it can be risky since the car can end up not recognising the multimedia unit or something like that and that even at the BMW dealership they put you to sign some papers that they're not responsible if something goes wrong doing the update process. What should I do? Is there any chance to make this cluster work on my car or it wasn't compatible from the start? Thanks!

I haven't update this topic for a while, but we were able to make it work on my non-facelift entry nav F30. There is a specific way to do it properly on my model as the technicians had some trouble coding it, but it's working, so if anyone else have the same model as mine and wants to retrofit a 6WB cluster, it can be done.
