Backup Camera HSD Cable Pinouts
Hi, so in a quest for a backup camera, I did some research and although I eventually want to get something like bimmertech kit, I just don't want to take apart bunch of interior panels in my F80 at this time.
So my plan was to temporarily use one of those cheap wireless backup camera kits, but I wanted to use OEM backup camera to so it would look clean from the outside. So I bought a used OEM backup camera off ebay along with the camera cable. I thought 4 wires= 2 for video signal and 2 for camera power. However, after some googling it turns out it camera uses HSD (high speed data) cable. Does anyone know the pinouts or what each wire is for? There are four wires inside. Is it even possible to use the camera without the special BMW module? Edit: I have this wireless backup camera kit but I want to use the BMW OEM camera instead of the license plate mount camera that came with this kit: https://www.amazon.com/Emmako-Digita...r=8-4-fkmrnull Thanks.

Unfortunately, you will not be able to use the OEM camera without getting the OEM TRSVC module. This typically also requires you to have the Park Distance Control sensors as well.

My camera is controlled by the REM/PDC. TRSVC would be if you have top, rear and sideview. He should have an REM already, it controls all the rear electronics, but the iDrive might need to be coded to make the PDC operational. When I did coding of my camera turn on and turn off speed and distance I discovered the camera and parking sensors were linked, so in REM I ended up coding the PDC CAFD, which coded both the PDC and the camera.
The short answer to the OPs question is that there is no quick down and dirty way to add a camera. |

This is what I bought and it works great. No coding required. I would email the seller and see if this would work for your F80.

I should have been more clear. The main reason I want to install a wireless kit with a small separate display is I just don't want to take apart bunch of interior panels at this time. Just want to install something functional for now and maybe few years down the line I'll put bimmertech or similar kit. I have this wireless backup camera kit but I want to use the BMW OEM camera instead of the license plate mount camera that came with this kit: https://www.amazon.com/Emmako-Digita...r=8-4-fkmrnull That's why I was wondering if the OEM camera can work just by hooking up +- wires and having an RCA video out. I guess it's possible, but as you surmised finding out the pin assignments of the BMW camera would be necessary. You might find it in the wiring diagrams at https://www.newtis.info/

Sorry for bumping an old post, but I too was looking for the same thing.
Anyway here are the pinouts. 0: Sheild = Sheild (probably GND) 1: Brown = Sig2 (probably +) 2: Green = LIN Bus 3: Orange = Sig1 (probably -) 4: Blue = VCC Corrected. (thanks atzebmw)
