(Renault) Alpine Vision anyone?

Anyone else think this looks good?

Can't say that the Alpine name/brand evokes that much in me, but this looks modern and quite distinctive, and the idea of Renaultsport doing RWD and mid engined is quite intriguing.

There is a hint of Cayman in there, but that's no bad thing!

This is the project Renault and Caterham fell out over. Shame they couldn't get past their differences.

Indeed, though it was one that didn't come as a surprise... are Caterham really a substantial enough company to "partner" anyone?!

And given they've struggled to develop much beyond a 7, what's their track record on development?

Looks to me though that Renault are doing a decent job on their own!

Caterham actually have an engineering division that was involved in this, so wasn't really the Lotus 7 rep part of the business. The group that was involved with Renault was closer to the Caterham F1 engineering team.

Ultimately Caterham would have had their own version on a shared platform. Probably a bit more hard core than the Renault version.

I was involved in talks with them about this project about 3 years ago. They said they were targeting Cayman and Audi TT. Looks like they had a Cayman picture hanging up on the design teams wall.

Ok fair enough, but I'm more interested in how it goes than how it's developed though!

I think they've done enough with the looks that it's not just Cayman rip off, and I can see the nod to their heritage. I think it looks really good, really modern looking, stylish, compact, and very much like it would go down a road very quickly!

I like it, kind of Alfa 4C look to it! Do you guys think 4C would be a future classic? Like the ones with plain headlights

It does look good, probably a little smaller than I had envisaged. I was thinking more like a practical Elise.

It probably will be to some extent (limited supply) but it may be diminished by that fact that it's just not rated all that highly on the handling stakes.

Lorcan has one in his showroom that belongs to his boss and it looks stunning. Just like you'd imagine a compact Ferrari might.

Yes I suppose with the mid-engine it may struggle for luggage room, but if I can get a couple of squashy weekend bags in it then that would be enough.

And that imo is where Renault went wrong.

Over the past 10 years Renaultsport have produced some very special cars that have set the world alight and they have all been manual, now in their infinite wisdom they have gone 'auto' only in the Clio.

If Renaultsport don't go back to their original ethos they are fucked imo.

Yeah agree and the prime example was/is the Renaultsport Clio!

Very nice but something about it makes it an "almost there" look for me. At least in the pics...

Hear me out on this, but there's something about the cab and the droop nose and rear that says Nissan Figaro to me.

IMO the design looks like a work in progress.
