Map must be correct for car's head unit type, and you need VIN specific FSC Enabling Code to install it.

Have managed to find and download a torrent with the BMW Road Map Europe EVO 2020-1 and BMW Road Map Europe EVO 2020-2. Used them in succession to update my 2017 maps via USB stick for free as the first 3 years of the vehicle purchase date are included. Not sure if it is worth the upgrade though as TomTom SatNav is so much better in so many aspects in comparison to the BMW. I guess this is just my own preference and opinion. Thanks for the help!

Yes, can use old maps up until validity of FSC Code. 2020-2 though is now 5 version back.
