Was driving home from Canterbury this weekend when I suddenly heard a loud clunk from under the car.
Turned out the undertray ripped, not sure how that happened. Doing about 70mph. Hope it's an easy fix, but knowing bmw, they will probably find a way to charge a fortune Have to make a journey tomorrow so considering cutting it off.

The 8mm screws rust like f*ck. They'll have either taken a whack or just rusted off, once the carpet catches enough wind to push it back it'll drop down, I did it to mine after fitting a FMIC, hand threaded the screws and used a powered wrench to finish them all off except for the front which I forgot about lol.
You can get a clean 2nd hand under tray on eBay for like £50 (make sure it's genuine as there's lots of aftermarket solid plastic ones) then just grab some new 8mm screws and the clips which fit them and you're golden. Otherwise a dealer will want around £150 for the tray, £15-20 for screws and clips plus minimum labour for fitting which is usually an hour at most dealers.. so add another £100 just for tightening some screws.

Thanks for the advise. Went past my local garage and got it zip tied, so ok for now.
I haven't seen a complete undertray incl the plastic side bits on ebay. Will check with bmw

If it's just the metal clips for the screws which have ripped out you can replace those.

How did you end up fixing this? I tried zip ties but my wife scraped the front of the car on one of those concrete curbs and now the tray is sitting lower than the bumper again, I pushed it back under but wanted to see if others found a solution for this other than replacing the bumper and tray.

I would recommend replacing it or re-securing it correctly with the correct screws. I damaged the control motor for the steering rack on mine due to a damaged and exposed under tray. I was quoted to replace the entire steering rack as the motor can’t be replaced on its own, it was £2K+ job. Luckily I was able to fix the housing that had been smashed by stones coming up from the road and made it water tight again. It’s an awful location to have the control unit.
