excellent choice. SUV and performance isn't necessarily needing to be blended in.

I know I just got rid of my rs6 for this so trying to get a v8 in a defender to compensate would have been a bit stupid really

Fiddled with all the buttons but nothing seemed to happen. Not sure if it was off in a pivi pro menu somewhere?

Could it have been just a normal mirror? I think you tilt it do you like when you switched to anti dazzle old school on mirrors?

The door would be slightly inconvenient perhaps, although the Disco tailgate is whopping and needs thought when parking. No electric operation on the defender would be a drawback. I do find the gesture tailgate handy with shopping, etc.

I too like that the Defender looks good in all specs. That one was a £62k SE XDynamic on checking the reg. a very nice car for that money imho. It would be easy to go cheaper and still be very happy I think.
MashinBenzin you say £62k for that model, were there many extras fitted? I dont suppose they tell you when its a loaner but be nice to know the true cost of the car...

A good question. All I can say is nothing that stood out as an extra.

I think XDynamic covers the exterior stuff.

20s would be a standard wheel I imagine, and all the better for it perhaps.

No pano roof, no Meridian surround (just standard Meridian which is excellent anyway). No HUD (I had no clue where I was, what I was listening to or what speed I was doing ).

ETA - looking at my interior pics it doesn't appear to have terrain response 2 either. Not sure where that would be, but none of the controls have the options I have.

LR specs do tend to be pretty logical. You don't add much to a SE, you buy a HSE etc. The demos no doubt reflect that. All my past ones have been standard for their model (RRS HSE & AB, Disco SE and HSE-L).

It seemed a lot of nice car for the money, I'd imagine far more equipment than a £62k X5 might have for instance.

That was my thought, almost decent value for money....given its easy to get over £50k with a 340d....

Yes, very easy to get carried away on trims and options. This felt like all you'd need almost. Call it £65k with some personal desirables.

It's an interesting contrast with the Discovery SE that sold me on the car. That was somewhere around £55-60k in 2019 and had a utilitarian interior. But it was obviously utilitarian and cheapened versus the luxury versions. Whereas the Defender just feels right. Tough but high quality. I assume they've done away with those utilitarian Discos in the facelift, think they were placeholders until the defender came.

Could be. It had three buttons. Who knows what for. But one was like a play button/arrow, which would make sense as on/off with the other two controlling brightness.

Would perhaps be a standard mirror shell without the functionality.

My rear view was a small arch over a spare tyre.

I agree. The more I look at it, the less I get it. That interior looks like it's out of some 1980's Jap car....

I'm surprised at how polarising the looks are!

I love it, it screams adventure. Probably the only SUV I would buy.

The only SUV I've ever driven is an X5, both F and G series, and tbh I loved them and the way it made me feel, however I'm too stubbornly aligned with the Chris Harris way of thinking.

I really like it but not sure it's for me at the moment. That's how the back of the Discovery should look rather than it's current fugly wonky rear end.

It looks much better than the Discovery. But the Discovery can't look like that without sacrificing what it does. Wonky number plate no issue for me, but there are issues which make that look like the criminal.

To be fair, I think the back of every large SUV is poor bar XC90, Defender, RRS, FFRR and the GLE. The back of the X5 was the worst angle for me.

I am relieved to hear the x5 was the worst looking back in your learned opinion. (given with your current experience and taste in choosing cars with back ends it's probably the opposite).

Nope. Just meant that if I could live with the X5 rear, the D5 was liveable too. Preferred the F15 to the G05 which just became a bit non-descript/minivan.

@MashinBenzin
you chose a discovery and live with it
you think defender looks next best especially the dash
and your chosen ideal bmw is an X7
and you think the G05 looks like a minivan.
I rest my case

You can’t eat a good coal seam....

I once had a black car with black wheels... never again! After the Sahara dust rain yesterday, white is my new go to colour 😉

Defender looks good, not my thing these days but I can imagine them being very popular in certain circles. V8 90 model should be fun and a great dog carrier....
Nice car. I have seen many here. All the Docs or maybe just surgeons around here like the big Land Rover - The Range Rover. It is a nice vehicle, but for most it is for navigating the urban jungle we call home.

I agree with black being hard to keep clean. We are in pollen season now and for 4-6 weeks there is yellow dust everywhere. Things are just a mess. Silver and white the color of our various vehicles, hides the pollen and dust better.

Cheers,
