CTS Turbo Charge Pipe O-Ring Fitment Issues
Hi all, was really hoping someone could help me with an issue I'm facing. My OEM charge pipe blew off, so I installed my CTS Turbo charge pipe (complete PITA, btw). I transferred both OEM O-rings to my CTS CP, but I noticed I couldn't get the CP to connect to the throttle body with the O-ring on. O-ring from CP to intercooler is completely fine.
I triple-checked that the top O-ring was on correctly (there was only one groove on the CP that allowed the O-ring to sit flush), but because it wouldn't connect, I ended up removing it and proceeded with the installation. I took it for a test drive and when I hit 3.5k RPM, I heard a pop. Opened the hood and the CP was off again. I attached it back on via the C-ring, and planning on driving it slow. Did I just receive a lemon or am I missing something obvious? Also, how bad is it that I run this car without the O-ring? |

Maybe lubricate and muscle it in?
I have a VRSF one, being gentle during my install didn't help. Eventually I got pissed and forced it in lol. |

Mine went in no issues. Are you sure it's in the right groove? Have you tried swapping the two rings?

I’ve had no issues transferring my O rings and connecting my CTS Turbo ChargePipe pipe at either end.

No issues here either for over 2 years now. Check out my blog (not allowed to link it here) I have a detailed DIY for the CTS CP.

Try some dishwashing soap to lubricate the o-ring and the throttle body. The soap will then get sticky once it drys and will help hold the CP on.

Thanks for the tips guys. I used some penetrating fluids as lubricant and muscled it in. Start to finish, took under 2 minutes. This time, I wasn't so gentle - worked like a charm

Hmmmm! Wonder if the penetrating fluid might be detrimental to the long term life of the O-ring?

I used a little oil from the oil chargepipe blow by. I mean. It's gonna end up in there anyway so there is little harm is using that oil to lube the o ring

I usually use a silicone spray to lube o-rings and fittings for assembly but you should be fine with the penetrating oil. Penetrating oils are generally made out of a blend of lower alkanols, lower alkyl benzenes, alkyl succinic acid, tert-dibutyl-p-cresol, polymethacryalate, zine dialkyl thiophsphate, and methyl silicone in a stock of paraffin bright stock lube oil.
The o-ring is probably made of PTFE due to it's high heat resistance and resistance to oils and methyl alcohol. It's also very resistant to the compounds in the penetrating oil.

Once I determined I had a boost leak coming from my CTS chargepipe and ordered and replaced the o-rings on each end placed them in the proper groove it just slid right on and poof, no more boost leak.
