Chiropractors
Just wondering people's views on chiropractors.
I damaged my back years ago and had been religiously seeing my chiropractor every 6 weeks for an "adjustment". It had turned into a habit.... Anyway, since an accident in January and subsequent illness, I was not able to see him. It has now been 8 months since I was last there and all ok (hope I don't regret saying that!). I'm back training in the gym and concentrating on my core. Interested to hear people's views? Many thanks. |

In before:-
They get my back up Glad to see the back of them I'll never go back I'm lucky enough to not have yet needed their services thankfully. However if they have 'fixed' you in sure you must feel like they walk on water. No money can replace health and a bad back is horrific.

If ever I’ve had a back or neck problem my chiropractor has always
sorted me out. I’m not saying that all chiropractors are good, but it’s just my experience with the one I go to. |

I've only ever heard they tell people they need to keep going back, of course they do, its in their interest!
I found a good Osteopath who sorted out my middle/upper back but he is not like that at all says because you work at a desk occasional maintenance may be a good idea but see how you go and only come in as and when if needed. |

Personally I've found chiropractors to be a waste of time and money.
My back is a mess (multiple problems with discs and vertebrae) and I've had more success through consultations with an osteopath / sports therapist. He (plus MRI) provided far more insight regarding my back, plus an undiagnosed further complication, plus additional inputs/treatment/exercises from his physio and an NHS physio. Their level of interest, expertise and willingness to solve the problem (rather than keeping you on a 'maintenance course' and repeat income) is a big part of the way forwards.

I've never found them to be that great, I used to have lower back issues and chiropractors, osteopaths and docs seemed more inclined to say don't do certain things and keep coming back so we can poke you about.
I have a friend who became a PT and rehab specialist and he assessed me, created a strength and movement program for me and I've not had any issues since. Turns out it was related more to poor hamstrings and hip mobility than anything in my back. |

When you here from a friend 'I've got a good chiropractor, I've been seeing him for years', makes me think he must be sh!t then, as I would only want to see him once and my back should be fixed forever more. I might be wrong, but they're not regulated by the medical council and there's no recourse if they spanner your back. Wouldn't touch one. Good physio and exercise in the right places should cure most back problems that don't require a knife

Prior to being treated by the surgeon, I saw a chiropractor, who was breathtakingly awful The surgeon recommended only using a qualified physiotherapist for post treatment

My recent experience is they work for short fixes, they uncurled me after my accident and I really valued what they did but this needed support from me to strengthen the muscles back up into their correct position.
But use a word of mouth recommend one and don't use them for too long otherwise it becomes a habit.
