Florida hire car question

Hi, all, off to Florida in November and have decided to hire a full size suv for a change, any idea if it might have CarPlay? Going with Virgin and car provided by Alamo, should be a Ford Expedition or similar.

I believe most new Ford US cars have Apple Car Play. I'm just back from Texas and Hired a Lincoln MXT which had ACP, though in fairness the inbuilt GPS was efficient if not intuitive. Enjoy your holiday

Thanks doncarlyon, like to mix things up, keep people on their toes!
And thanks Edinburra, hopefully weather will be ok, it usually is when we go at that time. How was the Lincoln, looks a bit, err, different!

So, this can be hit and miss... My advice is to check out the US car makers web sites and find out which manufacturers offer carplay as standard on their products, and which offer as an option or not at all... Then try and pick (or be allocated) a car from a manufacturer who has carplay as standard...

Looks, for instance, like the '19 Chevy Tahoe, for instance, has carplay (click the "i" button next to the standard infotainment)...

Hired a car through Alamo this summer in Orlando and went for the full size SUV as it was cheaper than a normal SUV. Ended up with a Ford Expedition with Apple CarPlay which was brilliant. Great satnav but also meant using Waze was dead easy too. Thing was a massive beast!

Have fun.

I've just returned from Orlando and hired a full size SUV (albeit for a couple of days).

We chose a Chevy Tahoe from the Alamo lineup, which did have Car Play, but also had the standard sat nav system working.

Last year we had a Ford Expedition, which again, had Car Play and standard nav.

I hear that only the Nissan Armada's don't have Car Play nor the standard sat nav enabled, avoid one of those!

I swapped the Tahoe after the first day as I couldn't get on with the driving position... ended up with a brand new Ford F-150 Platinum with the 3.5 twin turbo V6

Have a great holiday!

Different just about covers it. Large soft and quiet. It had adaptive cruise control which I’d not encountered before, impressed with its efficiency and speed of reaction. Covered about 1800 miles this trip mostly on super smooth freeways, difficult to tell how a 2,5 tonne crossover would fare on the imperfect UK tarmac.

Where are these smooth freeways in Texas of which you speak? Last time I was in the Dallas area quite a few of the freeways had apparently been visited by the RAF with some leftover JP233s.

Well, we've arrived, finished up with a Nissan Armada, more kit than Curry's and a 5.6litre V8, let's see how it does. Indicates a current mpg of 17! Oh, and it's on Texas plates!!

I like that, bit old fashioned in the looks but hefty enough. Old school interior too? More pics as the trip unfolds please, enjoy your vacation.

Good luck keeping the mpg high

Cheers, guys, made me chuckle! It's exactly what you'd expect, not had chance to give the loud pedal a prod but does seem nippy. But what a size!! More piccies to follow.

Used to be in NYC regularly and loved that too - the most beaten up postal/supermarket delivery truck would be woofling away instead of the roaring metallic rattles we get here.

Then the pick up culture down south - don't cut that F150/250 up, not just because the thing is massive but because it's toting a sodding gun rack oh and he's probably come from the drive thru bar too!

A couple of years ago we were in Canada and walking around residential areas it was so quiet because all the cars/trucks were petrol and you didn't hear the rattle of diesel. Heard the tyre noise more than any engine noise. It was pretty weird to start with!

That is massive, biggest I've driven was a 7 seater Escalade, with 7 people on board it didn't really want to stop and I used to an M3 and we had quite a few interesting moments, trouble was I had 6 Directors on board wittering away and screaming like girls....relax boys I've got this....

They are pretty huge. I've done a few airport shuttles rattling around in the vast rear seat of the Escalade. Not immune to shuttle shake are they?!
