Hi I recently picked up a used f30 with 146k miles, timing chain was replaced by bmw according to paperwork about 20k miles ago. There is no CEL popping up but the previous owner mentioned the drivetrain malfunction popping up, so I’m nervous to drive it in sport mode. These are the codes I was able to pull since I had the car a few days I haven’t driven it much. The intake filter was pretty dirty and seems to be running a tiny bit smoother since changing but still doesn’t sit right with me.

I would say swap your coils between cylinders, 2 to 1 and 3 to 4, and see if the codes follow, if they do, you need new coils, if they don't try the same with the sparkplugs, if that doesn't fix it, it might be injectors or worse, be careful with the sparkplugs, they're easy to break on the resistor (a swivel socket helps, but it isn't necessary, just don't overtorque).
Regarding the charge pipe pressure, make sure the charge pipe has no leaks, check for cracks in it as they're quite brittle especially at that mileage. I think a vacuum/boost/pressure leak test would be a good thing to do. |

Thanks I appreciate the info. And what’s “worse”? 😂😂 I mean at this point hearing all the possibilities and timing chains bending valves, I’m bracing myself for a blown engine.

Considering the mileage, performing a compression test in each cylinder would be a good idea. Keep us updated! |

So something funny happened today. I tried switching the coil from cylinder 2 which was misfiring, to cylinder one. The coil looked much dirtier than #1, and this is what the scanner showed after switching. Still says several misfires, but not showing cylinder 3 like it was before the swap. It said permanent then intermittent, then I swapped them back cleared everything. I’m thinking about just changing all the coils but I’m hesitant to throw money until I get it checked out by a specialist. Maybe it’s not the coils since the misfire didn’t follow the coil from cylinder 2 to 1. There’s no fuel injection switched off codes or anything either. My vacuum pump is most likely shot though due to oil in the vacuum lines and engine cover, probably my lack of power issues. It also stalled out on me this morning after a cold startup RPMs dropped it shivered and turned off. Still no CEL or DTM…only refill coolant but I’m pretty sure it’s full. https://youtube.com/shorts/NtqpfGy5T...vPpA0smhGLLBtC
