Car Insurance
My insurance renewal is due and as this is my first BMW, I'm quite surprised by the renewal quotes that's coming back.
I have a 2014 330d X Drive M Sport. Only "modification" I have is an M performance kit that I got fitted prior to collection. Quote are coming back for £500+ I have 15 years years experience and 14 years no claims. My previous car was around £300 to insure for a 2014 Subaru WRX STI. Is this a normal premium for a more premium car compared to previous car? |

Its a post code lottery, unless nothing else has changed (address) it does seem high. Millage increased??
I had some quote recently from Swinton Car Insurance they were the best quotes but no idea how reliable they are as a company!? |

Mileage is the same, only change is the car from last year. Just wondered if it BMW insurance was generally higher than previous cars I've had 🤷

BMW Insurance quoted me £800 & the AA quote was £820 and these were the cheapest quotes I got this year.
I know its my own fault for having a car with a group 42E insurance rating |

I paid £495 for my 335d this year with Go Skippy. Last year was £550 with them so can't complain too much. Previously I had a 320d and paid less than £300 a year and foolishly assumed the 335 would only be a little higher. As it turned out my insurer at the time wouldn't cover me and the cheapest price I managed to find anywhere was £950!! So unfortunately had to pay it for year one but it soon dropped after I'd had it 12 months and hadn't bent it

Insurance does seem to be going up lately on certain brands particularly. This is probably due to the increased car thefts in the country over the last few years.
My Renewal quote from Esure was a ridiculous % increase this time round, up from £351 to £519 with no points or claims added! When I phoned them they didn’t even attempt to offer me a lower quote either this time. I told them if I’d caused a pile up on the motorway I wouldn’t have expected an increase of that much! Shopped around elsewhere online and got it for £364 |

Phoned BMW insurance and they wouldn't quote me as I wanted my other half on my policy but we don't live together, so can't give me a quote 🙄
Admiral is my current insurer and went from £780 to £613 after a call. After using comparison sites, ended up going with esure and got them down to £470. 🤷 |

Same circumstances to the OP, my cheapest quote was £726. I never call up usually just stick to the online comparisons.
I don't know why BMW quotes just seem ridiculous for me. I did quotes on a Golf R, S3, M140i and they all came back cheaper than the 3 series. |

I have an M140i, and on the babybmw forum, insurance appears to have gone through the roof due to thefts and numpty’s wrapping them round trees!! I was with Chris knott for the past two years who were very competitive against the mainstream insurers, but moved to Sainsburys this year because the excess was only £150 (cheapest I’ve seen), and policy only £360. Excess was £350 with Chris Knott last two years (policy cost very similar), excess £500 with most others (and was £700 prior to that with Direct Line, just because I fitted the black M-Performance grills (worth £80, go figure), hence the reason I went with Chris Knott). Have since put the original grills on, to keep the car standard, and eliminate the opportunity to increase for feck all!! As others say, bit of a lottery!! P.S. 50 year old, good location, but a fault from 2016 :-( Last edited by r1cey; 01-15-2020 at 05:19 PM.. |

Um. I pay about £550 for my 440i GC with MPPSK in central London.
Depends like everything on age/job/mileage/use/area etc... ...but I have noticed it going up each year, which is counter-intuitive considering the fact that the car (now three years old) is getting older and less valuable. That must be an area risk thing, because we've experienced the same year-on-year increase trend on my wife's Fiat 500 as well.

I think the M140i is going to be my next car, I've been looking into them for the past 2 years at least. I'll probably wait to see what offers come in March for the new M135i, although I know I just want the 140i with the 6cyl and rear wheel drive. |
