I'm new to engine modification and want to chip my 2014 F30/nN0
Hello all, looking for some help.
Just bought a used 2014 328I w/ MSport Package.. I love it so far, as this is my first BMW, but now I'm hungry to squeeze more power out of the engine. I'm new to modifications and tuning in general, but am told a Stage 1 chip is probably the first thing I should do. I've been hearing a lot about racechip: https://www.racechip.us/shop/bmw/3-s...-255lb-ft.html Thought? Thanks! |

although "racechip" has the word chip in it, the current terminology is "tune", "piggy-back tune", "flash" or "flash tune".
piggy-backs such as race-chip, jb4, active autowerke active-8 are wired to work with the factory ECU and intercept the signal from the sensors before the factory ECU and modify those signals so the stock ECU is “tricked” into making the vehicle behave the way you want. piggy-backs have fallen way to flash tuning. Flash tuning is where the DME(computer) that controls the engine can be effectively re-programmed, fuel maps, ignition timing, code elimination. etc. Flashes such as Bootmod3 and MHD are the two most popular and the recommended way to increase performance. other bolt-ons you'll want to add: aftermarket intercooler(FMIC) catless or high flow catted downpipe(for California?) charge pipes, diverter valve, turbo inlet pipe exhaust intake last |

This helps thanks! So just to be clear, should I upgrade charge pipe, inlet pipe, diverter valve, etc. before I perform the stage 1 flash tune? Or is the hardware only needed for stage 2 and above?

You don't need to change any hardware for stage 1, but you'll need an FMIC and downpipe for stage 2. Everything else is just supplemental.

Change your charge pipes (at least the intercooler to intake) and do a bootmod3 stage 1 flash

I would recommend Bootmod3.
