Don't. Your ride will suffer. Trust me, I've driven F30s with 403Ms and the car becomes very twitchy. Once you get used to 400Ms you will notice the reduction in refinement with 403Ms. They are also noisier and besides, I don't think they look as good. Plus, with so many spokes they are difficult to clean and keep clean. You will also kerb them more easily and they will be a PITA to fix.

The 403s are the main reason for all the reported excessive F30 Road noise IMO I prefer my 400Ms...But I must admit ive never tried them.. Last edited by Thackers; 03-08-2014 at 05:20 PM.. |

I have the 400s but I prefer the look of the 403s. However, I washed my car today and I spent 10 mins on each wheel. It then hit home just how much longer I would have to spend on 403s and to be honest, I really couldn't be arsed and they'd end up looking like sh1t pretty quickly. Coincidentally, I went down one of Leeds ringroads' many bone rattling pot holes today and I'm pretty sure, had I been running 403s, I would have warped the wheel. Fortunately, I came through unscathed.....

I am kind of in the market for some winter wheels, so may be interested. I have a set of 18" winter 405M's on order but still waiting on them (only 7 left in the world 2 weeks ago).

Don't choose wheels because of how easy they are to clean!

There is a difference in ride comfort coupled with the extra road roar, both of which I find unacceptable. Besides, those of you who have paid out for the bigger wheels will be in mild denial that there is not much difference. There is, without a doubt. However, for the slightly jacked up 335d xDrive, the 403Ms reduce very slightly the visual impact of the extra ride height.

I've no need to be in denial, the F31 is the best riding car I've had! Everyone has their preferences and sounds like its time for an S class for you!

No noise difference for me going from 18inch winters to 19inch summer, but as said noise can be more related to the make of tyre than the size of tyre. There is difference in ride comfort, but the change is negligible to me given my preferences in looks and previous experiences of firm riding cars. Firm is fine, it's crashy I dislike. The F3x is never crashy in my experience. |
