M Flasher | MG Flasher | Bootmod | what's the difference?
Gents
**Disclaimer** This is a technical question - looking for objective information and not a subjective pissing match about one vs the other nor am I writing this question for a discussion about who's HP is biggest :-) Question: Are each of these companies essentially approaching tuning the B58 in the same manner? The only real difference being the actual tune that each company writes (one mans code vs anothers) or are there subtle differences between their individual approaches? Some people were waiting for the MP tune to hit the market (me, I'm an early adopter) while others were waiting on MG and now I see Bootmod is rolling out for our platform....is this just personal preference (Ford vs Chevy)? Educate me Thanks! Last edited by chenry; 02-13-2019 at 10:00 AM.. |

I was going to ask a similar question. My assumption is that experienced tuners of turbo cars all evaluate and tweak the same set of engine parameters and I doubt there is any secret sauce involved. I also assume that most are trying to achieve the most power without compromising reliability, while maintaining smooth predictable power delivery. There is also the issue of finding the right tune for your hardware bolt-ons.
I only have 7k on my 340, but I was so impatient I signed up for the MG Flasher beta - still waiting for the cable to arrive. My decision was made mostly on the value and flexibility of their offering (maps & options), combined with their responsive customer service. Time will tell if I someone else's flash will make me regret my decision, but I don't think there is some secret that only one tune company is going to figure out. Just my $0.02 |

I wouldn't expect big differences in the final tune but instead pick based on the flashing platform and support.
I currently run a MP tune which makes good power but after sales support is basically non existent and there is no way to log and make sure the tune is safe. I asked him for months to send a revised tune with cold start turned off (like I initially asked for), and when he finally did he took it upon himself to also update it to the new "stage 2.5" tune (which I suspect is probably on the ragged edge) and added a bunch of over run burbles which I didn't ask for. I have been asking questions about it for 8 weeks with no reply. I am thinking I will switch to BM3 or MHD when it's available as they have the ability to log and much better support. |

Air, fuel, boost, timing. Those are the four key power makers on a boosted car; there are no secrets. Anyone who's making substantially more than any other tuner is just pushing the safety net. You'll now see Mission's prices drop drastically since MG Flasher is in the arena so low, price wise, and PTF will likely charge the same as the N55/S55 for BM3 ($595 with one map, or $645 with all three; Stage 1, 2, e85). Mission currently charges $1,150 for just Stage 2 with M-Boot and burbles. They also charge $499 for trans flash. XHP will be releasing a trans flash soon for ~$350. No one in their right mind is going to pay substantially higher prices for the same results and poor customer service. I'll go BM3 for sure.

BM3 gives you ability to custom tune to your liking. I have it on my M2 and its amazing. Flashing is extremely fast compared to anything else out there by far. Their logging is incredible and so many tuners providing custom tuning with it. You’re also not stuck to Android. I use my laptop when customizing and my iPad Mini to flash over WiFi and run the live dashboard. Really looking forward to bm3 OTS numbers. I’m looking into jumping into a new 2020 Supra.

BM3 is the true and trusted way to go. Theres a reason they waited so long to release. It has a super user friendly interface, so no calling your tuner who doesnt want to talk to you

BM3 seems to make a lot of power based on their iG posts with different model BMW's. I'm not sure how the B58 will be, but hopefully it's impressive.

Now in my M3 was able to transfer my license & enjoy my car even more. Other platforms are playing catch up and still do not offer all the features we get with bm3 at no extra cost. |

If you want to know details and trends based on tuner, check the N55 forums. There's a lot of feedback and reviews based on how the tunes are generally done. Like others said, most of it will be invisible to us. Some add more boost, some add more timing. I don't think any of us want to spend 1000s switching tunes over +/- 20hp.
The main thing to focus on is customer service and options. They'll all perform well when things go right, but you want someone that will take ownership of your issues if/when things go wrong. |

That's an awesome trap, both 1/8 and 1/4. Bet you'd run 11.5 on some drag radials. That meth really ups the power!
