F83 Roof Convertible Alignment
Hello guys,
I hope my english is good enough. A year ago i bought a BMW M4 convertible and it had slightly (drift) damage. The doors and all panels where oke. Car is perfectly fine and tyres are aligned. Nothing wrong with that. After my first ride i experienced some windnoise from the right rear back, and it also leaks a little water when its raining. So after checking i saw the right rear shell (see the 1st picture below) was slightly higher. I could fix it and pushed the shell down. The only problem is, when i put it completly down, the window stays on the same place and there is space between the rear window and roof. (slightly viewable at picture 2 below) After checking everything is see that the roof is slightly miss aligned, probably accident related. I have no problems with opening and closing the roof. But please check the images below. Can this be fixed easily? Or is this going to be a new roof / top? The dealer says: "we have to investigate, search and anlyse. It can take days, weeks and months" but they cant give me any indication about the cost, so im a little bit "scared". Can anyone advise me? BTW the roof is the same as the E93 and the F33 models. picture1 https://prnt.sc/2F8Y-Uo5HNvI picture2 https://prnt.sc/ICVeqiHUwbPH picture3 https://prnt.sc/hIiGq0tfoBXE picture4 https://prnt.sc/YUl8I4sNVxxM

First, you appear to be missing a piece - the little rectangular cover on the driver's side. Don't be surprised by the lack of responses. It would be rare for someone to have a reason to DIY the complexities of adjusting that type of a convertible top. If the car took a side impact, it does not surprise me that the top is out of alignment. It's heavy, but not overly stiff so it could deflect easily. The question nobody can answer from your photos is whether it is simply out of alignment and can be adjusted, or whether components were bent. If it were me, I'd investigate that myself by inspecting how it all works and looking for bends by comparing the two sides, etc. And looking at how it adjusts. Blindly taking it to a dealer would scare me. I would take it to a really reputable body shop if I could not investigate myself.

Don't worry about that rectangle piece at some point it breaks on all the hard top verts. You can drop 4 figures at the dealer or get aftermarket for a fraction. However the alignment is handled by cables. They aren't in sync when it tightens at the very end.

Thank you for the response guys.
The rectangle piece is the last thing i'm worried about. BMW decided to sell it as a a completse set with 6 parts. I got an aftermarket which has to be painted and mounted. Im going to bring it to a convertible specialist next week and keep you updated.
