Taking car in under warranty

Hey guys,

Im taking my car in under warranty for timing chain issue. I'm primarily worried about coming to pick up the car and finding some random repair charges done i did not ask for. Has this happened to anyone? If so can you refuse to pay?

Thanks all

A repair order (RO) will be written and you will sign at drop-off. It will list the timing chain issue. You will take a copy. That is all you authorized. Nothing else can be added at additional charge without your authorization, either oral (phone) or written.

If your car is under warranty then everything related to the issue will be covered. If your car is outside of warranty then your service advisor will call you with a quote prior to starting any work on your vehicle; if you decline to have them do the work then they will charge you a diagnostic fee. Diagnostic fees vary; however, it is usually under $200.

The only time to worry when your vehicle is under warranty, is if you did something that could have possibly cause the issue that's pertaining to the warranty claim/work. Even then, you should get a call prior to any work being performed for which you will be charged.

So I received my loaner, an x5 with 4k miles! Very pleased with that. HOWEVER at the pre inspection i failed to note the curb rash on the wheels. I was able to spot a mark on the front bumper that i had the tech record, also to note the tank was nearly empty although we both noted that.

So my question is what is the best way to handle this? Should i call first thing in the morning and explain? Or do i return it and hope they do not spot it? Pretty worried about this bc i do not want to pay the fine what ever it is.

Leads me to another question how much notice can they give you to return the loaner without them charging you a fee? 1 hour before the dealership closes? 2 hours?

Did you're timing chain fail, like did you hear the noise, or are you having it done preemptively?

The dealer will contact you first to discuss any other potential repair items identified by the technician. No need to worry just yet.
