VTG Coding question
Hello, I've searched to see if anyone has had the same issue before, apologies if the answer is already posted and I missed it.
I replaced the VTG (transfer case control module) on my 328d wagon and I think I need to encode it to the car. I am using ISTA+ version 4.1. I can now see the VTG in ISTA+ and go through the replacement steps but still get an encoding error and cannot complete the VTG calibration because of the error. Also, I get a "test failed" message when running the vehicle test in ISTA+ but can still acess all the control modules and rear/clear error messages. Should I be using a different program to encode the new VTG. -Possible helpful extra info - Cable I am using -The new module is used from Ebay -The old module was completely dead and I could not read anything off of it. -Couple pics of the car, picked it up from Copart over in Tulsa, my first wagon! |

I'm working on getting ESYS setup. With replacing a module like I did with the VTG motor, I am not sure if I can get away with psdzdata lite or full quite yet.

Hey 88tuning.id, any chance you could help me with coding Vtg module in Esys? I have Ista+ and Icom but I can’t figure it out. I just rebuilt transfer case, Vtg needs calibrated, ecu functions says it’s responding correctly, I do the replace control unit function before attempting calibration, go to calibrate and it says I need to run replace control unit function first which I just did, tried over and over, and even tried a second used Vtg, tcase classification has been done and also no change. When I test either Vtg in servomotor ecu functions it fails after a second of spinning, I’m at my wits end with it and all I can think is perhaps the Vtg itself needs coded. Only dash light I have is traction control/chassis stabilization, no dsc codes in ista. Any information is a huge help, thanks. |

Yes, in Ista+ the error codes for Vtg are: 021908 (encoding: data invalid), 02190B (encoding: transmission failed), 440105 (transfer box Vtg: calibration faulty), in the test plan it says to replace the control unit, I have a spare but it’s coded for another car, I took the car to Bmw over the weekend, they want 2999.00 to replace with new Vtg. I obviously picked the car up that day and said thanks for trying. So I believe the next step is to try to code either the original or new used Vtg module to the vin of the car and then calibrate.

I have tried to run the repair procedure then calibrate 50+ times in Ista+, if you’re referring to coding the Vtg itself to the car with some other program like esys or ncs expert I don’t know how to do that nor do I have esys. Could I pay you to do it remotely?
