Cost to swap tires and balance
Hey yall — my local shop (in NY) is charging me $40 labor per wheel to swap tires and do balancing. Is that normal? Is balancing required/important? $160 for all 4. Isn't that a bit steep? Never done it before so not sure if price is right. Thanks in advance!

I wouldn't pay more than $20-$25/tire. Unless you have some issues with vibrations at speed (often at certain speeds), I wouldn't do a balance. While BMW doesn't recommend tire rotation, it's up to you if you decide to do it. Alignments are also in the "if unusual tire wear" or "pulling to one side/etc.", then do it otherwise don't bother. |

Actually for a dealer $160 for all 4 tires isn’t bad. To take them off the car, take the tires off the wheels, remount and balance. Then put it back on the car is probably close to an hour,at least. It’s not a ripoff at a dealer.
