Hey, i'm about to go with Sandals Wakefield and wondered if this quote was for oil or not? I am hoping to provide my own but being charged £174 for it.

I've heard of a lot of experiences whereby the online servicing prices are much lower than that quoted by dealers when you call. Surely you can just book online and pay that price, they'd honor it i'm sure?

If you're out of warranty then have a go at doing it yourself. This past weekend I did the following on my F32:

Oil and Filter Change - 1 hour max, total cost £69.00
MAF Clean - 5 mins - total cost £5.99
Air Filter change - 2 mins - total cost £32.99 for K&N upgrade which is now a lifetime part
Microfilter change - 10 mins - £20.00
EGR Clean - 10 mins - £5.99
Brake pads front and rear - 1 hour - £115 upgraded to EBCs
All parts OEM or upgrades over OEM

I'm not mechanically minded and haven't worked on a car for over 25 years, but BMWs are incredibly easy to work on yourself and have not yet had to buy a specialist tool.

I am going to change the fuel filter this weekend which also looks easy and the only service items I will be getting done at an Indy is a brake flush and coolant flush.

I know this doesn't help people still in warranty but if you are not and you do some mileage, then I don't think FBMWSH is necessary from a resale perspective, just keep a good log and receipts of what you do to the car and when and save yourself a fortune.

Forgetting the rest, changing the oil is so easy there is no way on earth I would be paying upwards of £150 (if youre lucky) for BMW to do what I can do in an hour or less.

Just sayin
