N55 Chargepipe + Intercooler Question

Dumb question so please excuse my ignorance, but anyone know if there would be issues with buying a VSRF Intercooler and the ER Chargepipe upgrades?

Don't believe there would be but wanted to check if anyone had any issues buying interrelated parts from different brands.

I think the only issue is with VRSF race and ER CP.

I would confirm with VRSF or Mike at XPH

Personally I would not buy anything made by VRSF, there are many other mfg of fmic that are better for around same cost

You can't go wrong with ER though

But I agree, contact Mike at XPH he will let you know the pros n cons

Much appreciated all! I went with a full ER setup for charge pipes and intercooler.

Since those are being replaced would it make sense to grab a GFB Diverter Valve?

Excellent decision. ER makes very good products.

If by charge pipes (plural) you mean the TIC in addition to CP, there might be a slight labor overlap with the TIC install, but I wouldn't consider it significant. The larger overlap is with a turbo inlet install. The DV is one of the more tricky/annoying installs overall. Not sure if you are doing DIY or not.

Also, i recommend researching the turbosmart option in addition to the GFB. There have been reports of the GFB needing maintenance over time. But in any case, the stock DV is usually fine unless it has a underlying problem. It hasn't been quantitatively demonstrated (to my knowledge) that it is an improvement over the stock DV for a FBO stock turbo car, although people do report improved throttle response/boost control. But lots of people meet boost targets just fine with the stock one, so i wouldn't consider it an essential upgrade assuming your stock one works fine.

Another vote for Turbosmart over GFB

I started with the GFB, no problems over the short time I had it installed, just liked the TS design better once it came out so I swapped it in

I would say that GFB or TS are not really a necessity if you are still on the stock turbo unless you have higher mileage on your car - stock valve is plastic & degrades over time

TS does offer a sense of security if still stock but the install if DIY for either is a PITA - especially for AWD

Yes I did get both the TIC and the CP will be installed at the same time. My car is only 35K miles so not high by any means but figured whiled doing these upgrades might as well do the DV because it can be done in conjuncture with the other work.

Will look into the Turbosmart option for sure, thanks!

Thanks for the input as well here. It would be more for peace of mind and the fact that the install could be done at the same time so really just paying for the part.

Which option did you go with? I see two on the site:
https://www.turbosmart.com/product/b...lumb-back-vr9/
https://www.turbosmart.com/product/b...dual-port-vr9/

I'll be interested to see if your shop really doesn't charge extra labor for the DV install if they are already doing IC+CP+TIC. There's no doubt it adds significant extra time/work over those parts.

I used the Plumb Back version - I don't want to hear the blowoff noise you will hear from the dual port & I wanted ALL the pressure re-routed back into the system as the stock valve does to make sure there is no possible problem with incorrect air metering

@Kurt206, while everything is out, you ought to change the turbo inlet aka intake pipe as well...

+1. I would do a turbo inlet before i did a DV. And the inlet labor does overlap with DV.

Read the thread here, starting on page 8 and my post about 2/3 of the way down showing the gains. Inlet is a big upgrade in terms of throttle response and drivability, not to mention the overall improved airflow.

Get the MST v2 if you go this route.
