Apple carplay on a 2017 with small screen

Hey y'all,

I'm probably picking up a 2017 330i for the wife this weekend.

The price is right but the car lacks the larger Navigation screen. However, my research here indicates that even though it has the smaller "non navigation" screen since it is a 2017 (8/2016 production date), the car only needs to be coded to allow apple car play.

Is this correct?

Yes, and I second bimmer-remote.

you might also be able to purchase car play for 300 bux from connected drive store. It will be more than remote coding but you won't need cables and laptops.

It was not available on connected drive store for my 2018. I don't think they made that option available for North American (US) market cars.

Does your F15 have the non NAV system with 6.6" screen?

OK. That's the difference. You have a newer 5/6 vehicle, those are able to be purchased from the online store. His non NAV 6.6 does not. There is no Carplay option available from BMW NA for those cars, even though it's offered in ROW on the same hardware equipped cars.

For CarPlay, the BMW needs a WiFi antenna connected to the HU. The only BMWs with a WiFi antenna from the factory were 1) Cars with 4G Hotspot option and 2) Cars with the CarPlay Preperation option.

You can add a WiFi antenna and have a Coder supply you with CarPlay, but as there is no WiFi antenna in the car as far as BMW knows, there is no way to enable the factory option for CarPlay in the BMW App.

Bimmer remote was great. 70 bucks for the file and literally took 3 minutes for me to code it in and 10 minutes to install a wifi antenna. Highest value upgrade I've done for sure.
