Baffles are super important first then other nice to have features will come
Navardi, thanks so much for taking a deep dive on this. Very interested to see where this goes. I love tracking with the N20 but the oiling has been a constant source of worry for me. I was hoping Steve Dinan or Bimmerworld would release an aftermarket solution derived from their race engine pans but I don't see that happening at this point.

For those with a stock setup without an accusump, are you running with an extra quart of oil over the standard 5.28Q/5L?

We have been running 6 quarts when we go to the local track. Has not been much of an issue but we do not keep the RPMS very high on the corners and we do not have long hanging sweepers that can cause lack of oil but it has always been a concern on our end in certain situations. Nice to see we have this option now.

Hey guys, bit of an update:

Been to the fab shop (Brintech Customs in Australia) and they're doing a great job so far with making the sump baffle setup!

Here are some pics, a few changes are happening but we're restriction flow especially into those strange little pockets. Will upload more pics once it is completed.

We're looking at having the final piece laser cut, vs hand made which will help on cost. Also looking at Maybe offering this as an off the shelf offering to be welded into the aluminium sump. Just need URO to keep offering the sump B)

Looks very, very good. Laser cutting is definitely worth looking into. If you do end up offering these count me in.

This is interesting to me as well. Any idea (ballpark) what they would charge for the weldable pieces if people wanted to buy just the pieces? Sounds interesting.

Aluminium Sump (Provided URO continue to sell them is around $200 USD before shipping)
the baffles will be around $550 AUD (roughly may cheapen or increase not 100% just yet)

Then you need to factor in welding.

Which is why I am more inclined to offer both assembled and the plates.

Currently waiting on the laser cutter to finish a batch of baffle kits.

Reached out to URO parts and the manufacturer of the Sump. Got told that it was unnecessary to implement this into their design....

So I will look to sell completed kits or individual for you to weld in.

Will have more photos soon, about to install this first sump into Nomadic Tuned Built N20 over the next 2 weeks.

I received my oil pan today and it looks fantastic! For those who haven't ordered one yet but are interested, do not let their September promotion go by. Top notch work here, can't wait to get it installed!!!

I just did the same. Custom Tune + oil pan you can't go wrong. More and more parts keep coming out for this motor, it's getting exciting.

For those of you investing in this upgraded part... anyone ran the 1/4 mile?

I realize the purpose of this item is preventing oil starvation situations in high G turns, on a circular track or road course. Just wondering if anyone has ran the 1/4 or is interested in doing so... please join us here:

It looks good on my shelf. Great quality + can't go wrong with it. The hard part is getting the opportunity to put it in as you have to remove the subframe to do so (at least it's this way on the f30. Not sure of f32 or the 1/2 series cars). I'm waiting for new bushings to show up and to swap those out at the same time.

Hey guys,

I know this is kind of an old thread but I wanted to add some content related to the DME (map) control of the oil pump volume/pressure and some of my own findings related to oil pressure as I have been dealing with a lot of spun bearings in N20s lately. There seemed to be some confusion about how to disable the map control. In the training document that had been referred to previously, page 81 says that the map control will cease if any of the emergency mode conditions are met:

-Map control valve faulty
-Oil pressure sensor faulty
-Outside air temperature less than -20C
-High oil or coolant temp
-Driving profile (excessive engine speed)

I have been doing some experimenting with some of the N20s I have and I have found that when they are not in map control mode, the maximum 5.5bar pressure is achieved at 2,500rpm. I have put them in emergency mode by unplugging the map control valve and I don't get any faults on the display or DTCs. It doesn't seem to limit engine output or engine speed when it is in emergency mode either.

I haven't noticed a reduction in fuel economy yet. Theoretically my fuel economy is less but if it's the difference between 36 and 38mpg or spun bearings, I will take the 5% fuel economy hit all day.

So under MAP control mode when you go above 2500RPM it limits the oil pressure? Do you have a graph RPM/oil pressure?

Oil pressure is limitted both with and without MAP control. With MAP control, the ECU is trying to control it, but there's a mechanical 10-11 bar relief. Without MAP control, there is a separate mechanical 5-6 bar relief.

The ability to make full oil pressure depends both on RPM and oil temperature. A cold motor should make 5+ bar at idle while a warm one will take more revs. So be wary of any "RPM vs pressure" graph without also understanding what temperature (and presumably weight) the oil is.
