.022 spark plug gapping ngk

About to do a spark plug swap of my old ones with the 94201 ngks, seen people have gapped them go .022 rather then .030 when they are running a tune, anyone got insight on this and if the gapping would be better for stage 2+ hpfp mhd on my 2016 340i, thank you!

OEM Champions at stock gap, 0.030" is what a lot of us do now. No timing corrections with upgraded turbo and E40 custom tune.

Stock gap is good for anything under like 850whp.

The Champions are already .030 out the box or they need slight adjusting? I read this on Rock Auto:

CHAMPION 9425 {12120040551, 12120041666} Iridium Info
with Cup Terminal; Gap 0.032 IN

Does stock gap still apply to NGK plugs? Missed the champion plug part, and I need to install my new NGKs today. Was using NGK .022 previously

Spark plugs themselves will tell you what to do. If you remove the old plugs and they look fine then replace them with the same plug and gap that was working well. There are plenty of photo articles and videos that explain how to look at spark plugs and "read" their condition.

There really isn't a spark plug "upgrade". If everything is running cleanly as designed by the engineers who created the engine, then there is nothing to be improved upon.

I'm running .020 due to mainly running E85 and was running 0.022 on pump gas

I'm running .022" and everything is fine. Flex fuel tuned with a Pure 800. Tuner recommended .018" but I personally did not want to close that gap that small.

Stock Gap is 0.028-0.031. No need to adjust but worth double checking that they aren't outside of that.

Gapping is to reduce blowout and will burn less efficiently. Worst case scenario you damage the tip when adjusting it. That's why it's not recommended to mess with it. It'll run fine either way but a bigger gap is better if you can get away with it, which the B58 can for most setups.

The only way you’re really going to damage the tip is if you try and narrow it while you have your feeler in. Beyond that, the tip never makes contact with anything.

With that being said, I think I’ll try the stock gap champions next spark plug change. The stock gap works fine for us Kern? With MHD hpfp maps?

You're being very optimistic. Especially for people that use the old style gap tools. It's happened to several people unfortunately.

I'm running stock gap at over 600whp along with many others. The most I've seen is the Twisted Tuning A90 running 750whp, again with stock gap. Until you experience blowout, I wouldn't change anything.

You sorta feel sudden cut-outs under WOT or almost like the car is choking out. Back in the days I felt mine more in the upper RPM range like at 5500+ rpm or so.

I'm pretty sure this is what's happening to me. And backfiring out the exhaust. It shouldn't be but that's the exact symptoms. E50 it does exactly that around 4k.

I had the ngk 94201 at 0.022, car ran amazing. Tried 0.020 and no noticeable change. I'm wondering if they are too cold of a plug for E I was reading about that. It's probably something else though.

I found these which look rad but I don't think they work on the b-58. It be cool if we could get a set of these:

If it's back firing from the exhaust its probably a HPFP crash from a weak pump or too much ethanol. Usually spark plug blow outs from my experience don't do that and have a sudden choking symptom or cut-out without that loud backfire from the exhaust. Those spark plugs you posted are made for the N-Series and typically they can damage the coil plug. My best experience with spark plugs so far has been the NGK 94201 even compared to the Champion plugs.
